Beaches of Porto Rafti and Surrounding Areas

Porto Rafti, Avlaki and Vravrona are well known for their fantastic beaches. Most offer sunbeds and umbrellas for hire but they can be enjoyed without the added expense. The beaches are very popular with the locals and can become crowded on weekends so it's best to go early (before 10) or in the afternoon - around 5. However, if you have a car and are up for a drive, try one of the other beaches on the list because when one beach is crowded another tends not to be so busy. Please note that there is a shower available at the pool which can be used to rinse off after visiting the beaches. Whilst some of the beaches are within easy walking distance, others require a car. If you don't have a car and would like to spend a day at one of beaches mentioned, please contact us.
Porto Rafti Beach - St. Spyridon. Just 150m away straight down Dionisou Avenue is the beach of St. Spyridon. A unique feature of this beach is the Seatrac: an amazing one-of-a-kind device that helps people with leg mobility disabilities enter the ocean without assistance. The seat then travels along a 20 m track into the water. Also since this device is powered by solar panels. Saint Spyridon has also its own share in sunbeds and umbrellas. It has crystal clear water and is protected from the north winds which sometimes blow in the area. The area has several taverns for good food, cafes and beach bars. If visiting the beach with children be warned because the waters dip and become deep very quickly. After your swim if you want to enjoy a cup of coffee or a drink take Gregou Avenue walking away from the church and towards No. 22 Gregou. Continue on and you will come to Status Cafe and a boardwalk. Status Cafe is your first option but if you continue along the boardwalk you will come across other coffee shops including Smart Cafe and Palmie which are slightly cheaper than Status. All of these options are enjoyable. If you have never travelled to Greece before and enjoy your coffee try a Greek Ice Coffee called a "Frappe".

Further on from St. Spyridon Beach and past the church you will come across a pathway in front of a gated complex called Apollonia. There are a number of little coves which are easy to access and great for swimming. If the main beaches are crowded these coves are usually a good alternative.

Vravrona Beach: Take Vravrona Avenue, past the Temple of Artemis and on the drive towards Loutsa and you will find Vravrona Beach. History says that the small town of Vravrona belonged to the mythical King Cecrops, the founder of Athens. It is an interesting place to go, not only for its nice beaches and creeks but also to pay a visit to the sanctuary of Artemis. This beach is great for kids because it is relatively shallow for quite a way into the waters. There are no restaurants or cafes located at the beach - just a small kiosk. However, after your swim, continue on (away from the direction of Loutsa) and you will come to a Cafe-Bar called Nisos which is well worth a visit.

Take the road towards Avlaki and the pay beach at Avlaki (see next item on list). You can park at the parking for Avlaki pay beach but don't go in. Instead, veer off towards the right and take the footpath which will take you past the gated in pay beach an on to a free beach called Panorama. You could also take your car closer but it is difficult to get to by car and the parking spaces are limited. This cove is delightful. It is great for swimming for kids. There is a fish tavern directly next to the beach which offers drinks, Greek food and fish dishes. Veering off away from the footpath referred to above is a boardwalk. If you are up to some sightseeing, a walk on this path will take you past some interesting houses on your right and wonderful sea views on your left. One could easily spend a day at Panorama Beach.

This beach is very picturesque but it's a bit of a climb. The actual beach is made of rocks and there is not a lot of space but there are usually not a lot of people either. Above is the Cafe-Bar Nissos which is well worth a visit due to its exquisite views.
