Restaurants

We have a fair number of restaurants in the area for a town our size. Two of them are listed as #1 in NH for their type of cuisine.
Rich and Jenn have been gracious to offer really nice coupons (some free stuff without purchase, some "regular" coupons with purchase). They often have live music on the weekends.

Our favorite restaurant in town. It's hard to say what is the best. It's a quiet restaurant, good for dates, though we also go as a family (with our six children). We probably like their appetizers the best. Obviously, you have to like middle Eastern food, but we highly recommend it. Rated #1 in NH for middle Eastern food by one of the region's papers.

Good food, low prices. We often get their burritos. We usually get takeout instead of eating in the restaurant, but there are some tables if you want. Rated #1 Mexican estaurant in NH by WMUR, a TV station.

Chain sub/grinder/hoagie/gyro/hero place (though they'll look at you funny if you call it anything other than a sub or grinder). Subway is one of our reliable restaurants when we travel.

Things to do

If you are hanging around with some extra time, here are some recommendations.
Manahan is our local sandy beach that is free to all. There's always a breeze at the lake, and there's is shady tree spots and open, sunny sand. A small playground, a large rock to sit on, watch the water, swim out to the raft. There are buoys marking the edge of the swim area, including a little kid section. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer days. Pierce Lake (the lake that Manahan Park is on) has a boat launch, but there aren't any rentals.

If you want to get outdoors, Hillsboro has some scenic roads to wander around in. We recommend heading north out of town and make a loop on School St, Center Rd, East Washington Rd, and Route 31. If you want to go sit, try out the "Top of the World" on Kimball Hill Rd. Nice views of the hills around and good star gazing. For walking, the town is safe and you can walk to downtown, Grimes Field, Riverwalk (a wooded trail connected to Grimes Field), to the school. All of those are within a 1/2 mile of our house.
