This place is close to my apartment and something you really do not expect in the surroundings of Ikea and the industrial buildings. But, absolute lovely place for people who love vintage, simplicity, arts and bio-food served with a real smile. The place is situated on a green non-industrial spot just outside Haarlem and the view is astonishing and unexpected. The furniture is all second hand, the glass house was a former gardening culture house and there is a terrace where you can relax and watch the ducks on the water and the planes of airport Amsterdam (not noisy!). You can have breakfast from 9 AM tuesday til sunday and lunch and dinner (weekends til 8 PM). Best place for small children!

But, absolute lovely place for people who love vintage, simplicity, arts and bio-food served with a real smile. The place is situated on a green non-industrial spot just outside Haarlem and the view is astonishing and unexpected. The furniture is all second hand, the glass house was a former gardening culture house and there is a terrace where you can relax and watch the ducks on the water and the planes of airport Amsterdam (not noisy!). You can have breakfast from 9 AM tuesday til sunday and lunch and dinner (weekends til 8 PM). Best place for small children!

There is a nice cafe and a very good restaurant called ML, that holds 1 Michelin star. Check their website for a reservation and enjoy first class food in Holland.

But, if you want to see FransHals who lived in the same century as Rembrandt, go visit the Frans Hals museum! Is is iconic and impressive!
And much easier to get in as there are no cues like the Rijksmuseum.

It is the oldest museum of Holland and worldfamous for it's collection. Situated at the riverside in the centre of Haarlem you will also be impressed by the immense facade and the lovely small white bridge towards it. Just a 15 minute walk from my apartment along the river called Spaarne.

You can have coffee, lunch and diner at the restaurant "Het Veerkwartier" (no cash, only cards). An unexpected peaceful and relaxed place at the city end.
Explore the recreational park called "Spaarnwoude" with it's hiking paths and forests. It starts at the Veerplas.
Enjoy the on and off going planes floating by as Schiphol is just around the corner. Nice for kids!

Zandvoort is a former fisher's town right at the sea side, just 8 kilometers from Haarlem. Go by train (15 minute train ride from Haarlem) or by bike. Want to go by car? Take the route through Bloemendaal aan zee for the lovely dune scenery (also by bike). Mind the parking fees! Visit the beaches of Bloemendaal and Zandvoort during summer and winter to get fresh air and breath the healthy salty air.
