Pedernales is a coastal town with a string of shops, restaurants and bars along the water front. Devastated by the April 2016 earthquakes the town is rebuilding and tourist dollars greatly help. North and south of Pedernales are other beach areas and beautiful scenery along the coastal highway.

Puerto Quito is a quaint town in near the base of the Chocoan lowlands and has several small family owned grocery markets, bakeries, beauty shops, hardware stores, etc. On Sunday there is an open street market with essentials available along with local goods.
