Very close and easy to get is Brixton that has raised the stakes in becoming an epicentre of all things music, food, culture and nightlife. Laying claim to many a craft beer joint, warehouse style digs, rustic haunts and even stylish cocktail dens, Brixton has built a name for itself as one hell of a place for a cheeky night out on the lash. Always busy, buzzing and full of bright nightlife, SW2 never looked so good. Let me point out the latest arrival. Phonox Bar. Brixton’s latest clubbing concept. The venue seamlessly transitions from cool lounge bar to pulsing dancing spot, with resident Jasper James and local SW9 DJs behind the decks. It's located a few yards away from the station.

Buckingham Palace opens up its Sèvres-china-packed, gold-leaf-decorated State Rooms to anyone who wants to visit it from July to October. Expect priceless Rubens paintings, a piano Queen Victoria played, 350 clocks and even the odd secret door. That said, many people are happy just to watch the Changing of the Guard outside Buckingham Palace. It's free and typically takes place four days a week at 11 am.

Technically it's called Elizabeth Tower; the main bell inside is Big Ben – the edifice is 96 metres high. It is the world’s most famous clock, features in Mary Poppins film, on the label of HP sauce and probably every London postcard ever made. It is by far one of London's most popular monuments for a selfie; #bigben has almost two-and-a-half million Instagram posts. When the clock face is illuminated, it means Parliament is in session.
