Food Scene
Good for: Eat-in or take-away coffee, and a quick chat.
Why we love it: This is our favourite coffee joint whether we’re running to the train or sitting at the front tables people watching. It’s just across the road from our house and has lovely staff. The menu is fairly small, it’s not really the place you’d settle in for a long brunch.
Recommendations: The croissants are aesthetically beautiful, and the lemon curd almond cake is a decadent breakfast delight.
Price: Expect to pay about $4.50 for a soy latte

Recommendations: Anything. Take a risk, try something different.

Everything on the Mediterranean-influenced vegetarian menu is made from scratch from local, organic produce. It has a community vibe but polish and purpose in everything. It also makes house-made doughnuts daily, cakes and muffins, two seasonal salads and two sandwiches if you’re looking for takeaways to enjoy at the park. We love the breakfast bowl with sweet potato purée, heirloom tomato, moghrabieh and sprout slaw with tahini dressing, avo, green tomato relish and poached dukkah eggs!

Why we love it: This has the vibe of eating at a farmer’s market, except that it’s housed in a chic warehouse. With a daily changing menu and strategically placed eggplants gracing wooden tables, this is a bustling place for breakie.
Recommendations: The freshly baked cookies

Why we love it: This is a family run Turkish joint that's been going for decades now. It’s pretty low-key (you’ll notice the back patio is on a slightly awkward slant) but the food is great, it’s well priced, the staff are delightful, and it always makes for a fun dinner on any night from Wednesday through Saturday (the other nights are more subdued). The whole restaurant will break into song when a birthday cake comes out which is delightful.
Recommendations: Call ahead! It’s a tough one to get a table at otherwise. We always prefer sitting outside. This place is cash only, and BYO. It’s also pretty loud - bring your outside voice

Why we love it: This is a family run Turkish joint that's been going for decades now. It’s pretty low-key (you’ll notice the back patio is on a slightly awkward slant) but the food is great, it’s well priced, the staff are delightful, and it always makes for a fun dinner on any night from Wednesday through Saturday (the other nights are more subdued).
