The exhibition of Maori portraits is worth the admission price ($25). And right next to the Art Gallery is the Women's Suffrage Centennial Mural.
NZ gave women the right to vote in 1893 (and elected our first Mayoress that year too - the male councillors resigned in protest!) The signatures you see on the scroll are copies of some of the signatures on the original petition and the faces you see are photos of a few of the locals who signed it.
