Crossnore School is a residential school for orphaned children that has now opened up to other children in the surrounding community. The coffee shop is run by the students. Pick through the second hand shop that is on the school grounds and visit the looming room and witness artists hand making amazing scarves and capes with their looms.

I don't know how this place has eluded The Food Network! Hands down, my favorite pizza and bakery. It is a tiny hole in the wall that is off the beaten path in Roan Mountain. If I were abandoned on a deserted isle and had one food to live off of for the rest of my life I would choose their lemon-blueberry bread. Yummo!

Kayakers flock to Wilson Creek when the river is raging. The area hosts some fantastic gravel grinding and single track to ride and hike. Amazing waterfalls are tucked back in the trails. The Visitor Center is worth a walk through to read about the tumultuous history of the area.
