A sunrise climb up Mt Batur is an unforgettable experience. Tour companies will pick you up around 2-3 am from Ubud and take you to the base of the mountain where you’ll meet your guide. The ride takes 45min – 1hr. They’ll give you a “breakfast” (hard-boiled egg, banana + water) to start the 4-5 hour hike up. It’s not strenuous but be prepared for the steep incline. Wear a long sleeve shirt and pants as it's cold in the early morning. Check the weather too, as you may want to bring a rain coat. They also sell ponchos, hot tea and chocolate at the peak. Try to stop at one of the hot springs along the way back.

And you'll want to take the opportunity to do so soon, before the big wave of tourism and large hotels changes its landscape.
