Historic Tapoco Lodge (https://tapoco.com/) it's an awesome place to have some good food by the Cheoah River and you might just see some kayaking. It's good place for kids as well. Just next to the lodge are small hikes and benches and grass area you can walk around in.

About 20 to 30 min away is NOC (https://noc.com/) it's fun for everyone and right on the Nantahala River. Great food and fun for everyone.

Lake Santeetlah Marina - very nice inside, limited food options, camping essentials, ice scream, gas, fishing worms and even ICE is sold there. Santeetlah also rents boats but call well in advance as supply is limited. While on the lake visit one of the many camping spots, if the spot is empty it's yours. Our favorite is opposite from the marina around the corner of the point where an island is. Many fun camping spots around that area. Each camping spot is outfitted with a fire ring and a huge picnic table.

Short Waterfall hike: Yellow Creek Hike - just a few miles down 129 towards Deals Gap. You'll find a small gravel parking area - the trail runs along Yellow Creek and ends at the waterfall - about a 20 minute hike, good for most ages.
