Cascade de la Lance is a 20 minute walk from the centre of Colmars. We have seen Dippers there in the summer. Excellent bakers on the main street Le P'tit Rustique - the moelleux is a must!

The highest glacial lake in Europe on the edge of the Mercantour National Park. There is a unique species of trout in the lake. Fabulous walks around the lake and beyond. Wild raspberries to pick on the woods on the way up to the lake in the summer. Swimming not recommended though as it is very very cold! There is a little cafe on the waters edge serving refreshments.

The path along the ridge is part of GR56 - not for the faint hearted! The Refuge Restaurant just over the Col does an excellent charcuterie platter - you can sit be the log fire inside on cooler days

Situated on a sunny plateau on the main slopes, this friendly family run restaurant is a must for lunch. Make sure you get there early to order one of their delicious pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven.
