Maclean is known as 'The Scottish Town' in Australia. The popular Maclean Highland Gathering has been held for over 100 years during the Easter weekend. Participants and bands contest traditional Scottish athletic and cultural competitions, such as caber tossing, highland dancing, band competition, and bagpiping.

This is the beach to bring your dog to for a walk. You can stay around the Green point rock platform and beach or walk all the way to Yamba (Pippi Beach) along Dump Beach. It takes 30 to 45 minutes to reach Yamba.

Take the splendid coastal walk to Shelley beach from the Backbeach carpark or turn off just before Backbeach for a slightly shorter walk. About a 3 hour walk there and back, or camp overnight. Bring plenty of water.
