Get the chorizzo fundito and thank us later. Wash it down with a margarita, tequila or cocktail of your choice. Lots of menu options with classic and creative Mexican fusion faire. Around 9:00 on weekends the bar is hopping as they have live solo or duet performers usually singing & playing country or Mexican inspired music. Take a walk around town after dinner to see what else is happening! Or come for brunch - you can't go wrong with their huevos rancheros.

It doesn't get any closer to home. Literally for us and also for the cooking. Classic home style restaurant with a small town feel. Parkes recently moved to this location from Preston but it's like they have always been here!

It's worth the beautiful country drive for this locally famous ice cream. In late summer and fall the fields all around are full of sunflowers and you can see the cows. Seems like they add 5 new flavors every year and no matter how busy they are - they have lots of service windows. They don't advertise this well, but you can always add one topping for free!

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. House made sweet tea. For this southern transplant it's a little taste of home right around the corner. You can dine in and look at all the wall kitsch or order to go and take it for a picnic at one of the many local parks or beaches! Get extra wet naps & sauce at the tea counter.

Brunch. Always call ahead and make a reservation or you will be waiting in a line out the door! Fresh popovers on Sunday morning are usually sold out by 10am. The kitchen is magic. The specials are always good - especially seafood. They also are phenomenal for lunch or dinner. Great wine selection. Top notch favorite place. Street parking can be tricky so give yourself some time to find a spot or there is a public lot down the side street - look for signs.

Love all their food - and you can even order sushi delivered to your table from the sushi bar across the hall! Thai iced tea and specialty tea selections and cocktails are a treat. Our go-to order is the simple "drunken noodles" a spicy, tasty classic.

Great for families. Dine in or take out. Their buffalo chicken or classic "grandma" pizza is the stuff dreams are made of. They have gluten free crust and pasta so almost anything on the menu is available. We restrain ourselves to eating here once a week. It's really close to home and they do have delivery but it's not the quickest.

Everything on their menu is fantastic. Eat upstairs for the classic Inn dining experience or eat downstairs in the tavern with the locals. After 9pm live music starts and the tavern becomes more of a "bar". The full menu is available downstairs, but only the fancier menu is available upstairs. Expect a wait unless you eat early - put in your name and take a walk by the water, but stay close, they will call your cell phone when your table is ready!

Their menu is fresh and interesting with local ingredients. Known for their gourmet burgers & large selection of unique beers on tap. Go early for their boozy brunch or expect to put your name in and walk around town for an hour + wait. Our go-to Indian food spot. They have a great, affordable lunch buffet, but we usually go for dinner. Everything is fresh made and the service is top notch. Have liked every. single. thing we have ever tried. We always end up with leftovers and eat them for breakfast the next day. Never (hardly ever) have to wait for a table, the place is huge - Attached to the Ramada hotel.

Foxwood's big (unrelated) brother Mohegan Sun is definitely fun town. Check out their website for events, shows and games. They often have summer events outside on the top story of one of the parking garages. High end restaurants (and chain places) with shopping, clubbing and gambling to your hearts content. There are free live music shows in "the wolf den" that are really fun tribute bands, people who used to be a lot more famous (like MC Hammer), Current "B" level bands or up and coming artists. Free seats are first come first served.

Park your car in New London and take the ferry to Block Island on foot. When you get there, rent bikes or a moped to cruise around the tiny island. You can take your own bike on the ferry but it will cost you the same as to rent one there! (self guided bike tour: https://www.goblockisland.com/common/help.aspx?page=biketour) There are a few other places to rent too - this one is just closest to the dock. Enjoy this iconic (and notoriously expensive) summer retreat by day and return home in the evening!

The lighthouse is best seen from a boat on the river as it sits on private property. The Custom House Maritime Museum in downtown New London offers boat trips and lighthouse tours of this and other lighthouses in the area. From land, the closest views are from Pequot Avenue along the beaches south of the lighthouse. Distant full-length views are best seen from the Avery Point UConn campus in Groton where one can also see New London Ledge Lighthouse in the river and Avery Point lighthouse on campus.

The most beautiful curving, sandy beach facing the Atlantic Ocean. Perfect for walking & swimming. Views of the Watch Hill Point Lighthouse. Go early (8-9am) or plan to circle for street parking. This is a free public beach that is less crowded because it requires walking through a parking area, past the yacht club, past the private cottage / cabanas, and over the large dune that separates it from Watch Hill Cove. You are not supposed to park in the lot unless you are shopping at the stores, lot attendants will have you towed. There is another free public beach on the other side of Watch Hill, but parking is just as tricky and it is usually very crowded.

This is a local favorite spot (September - December) with fresh, hot apple cider doughnuts that are so good people just stand around the yard eating them out of the white paper bags. Check their website to see when they have scheduled cider making demonstrations with the steam powered cider mill. If you're over 21 you MUST sample their hard cider and take home a jug or two. They have many varieties - most are excellent. Our favorite is the Lucky Lion - aged in whiskey barrels. Inside the main shop they also sell non-alcoholic cider and lots of other locally made jams, sauces, syrups, honey and fresh baked goods.

In CT stores that sell liquor, beer & wine are called "Package Stores" or "The Packey". This one is a little local one convenient if you are coming up from I-95 before you turn up Colonel Ledyard Highway. Not a huge selection - just the basics.
This is both a Grocery & Convenience Store. It's what you might expect of a small town grocery store - open 6am to 9pm. There won't be too many options but they have mostly everything. Limited gluten free section. There is also a gas station, car wash and vacuum which I frequently use after taking friends to the beach. Jon loves their pre-made breakfast sandwiches on the convenience side.

You need a quarter to get a cart but the prices and fresh vegetable selection is worth it... and you get your quarter back when you return the cart! Bring bags if you can, or you have to buy them. Use their cardboard boxes for free. They surprisingly have a decent gluten free and organic selection. I generally go there for foods when entertaining or for snack foods - they have lots of cheeses, cured meats, hummus, pestos, chips, fancy crackers and fresh veggies & fruits etc.
