Food Scene
http://onshuisie.co.za/ This is a quaint little restaurant in an historic bulding right on the sea, the food is pretty good value and it is a great place to chill while strolling along the coast and visiting Eden on the Bay nearby. Go early on weekends, it gets super full really early!

If you like artisinal high quality foods of all kinds (including vegan!) then you MUST go to this market. Added to which the Biscuit Mill is awesome in its own right and on Saturday morning it is really vibey.

http://www.maestros.co.za/ so close you can walk along the beach to get there, if you don't mind rolling up your trousers to cross the Diep River that is... The view from the deck is beyond iconic and the menu is extensive. Not as cheap as it used to be but still plenty affordable, you want to get there an hour before sunset so that you can get a seat on the wind protected deck and take in the views. There is security parking inside the Gold Club. If you are staying in this area you really MUST go at least once.

Also a bakery and coffee take out shop. All of which are great. The staff are pretty full-on so don't expect to be treated with much defference. A great place to start or end your visit to Kalk bay, or pick up a pastry and a really good coffee on your way through to Cape Poiint. I always do

http://www.delaire.co.za/ There are actually two restaurants here, and a winefarm and a hotel. The Graff diamond people spent the equivalent of the budget of a small African country on this trinket. It is worth going for the view and the art alone. Seriously gorgeous locale and the the scene from the deck is sublime, you could even say vulgar.

http://mzansi45.co.za/ Mzansi means South Africa in street slang, and this little family restaurant is as authentic as it gets. I would never go and pay for this food because why would I, its what I grew up with and I can make all of it with my eyes closed (except I'm a vegan now). BUT, it is delicious and the host and her assistants are apparently awesome and friendly and and everyone I know who has been says they loved it, so do go!

Sightseeing
http://www.tablemountain.net Check site to see if it is running. This is probably the one thing you really cannot afford to miss out on. I really recommend spending a few hours up top, go for a walk to McClears beacon why don't you?! Get away from the crowds, it only takes five minutes and you will be mostly on your own. Totally safe and the sense of space and the views in private are just wonderful. I love it so much I have a card which lets me go up as much as I can. Ask me about hikes on the mountain, I have lots of tips and advice. There is also a goodish buffet restaurant up top which is affordable and the experience is just lovely of eating up there too. Otherwise take a picnic.

http://www.chapmanspeakdrive.co.za/ check this site to see if the road is open, in winter there can be rock slides in which case it is closed. It is however totally safe since hugely expensive Swiss style safety nets have been installed, which is hwy you need to pay to use the road now. Stop at the top and if you are adventurous you can clamber down a little ways and find a cave. I arranged a wedding for some friends in it ages ago. It very cool.

Getting Around
https://myciti.org.za/en/home/ Forget what you think you know about African public transportation. This system was begun in preparation for the World Cup soccer in 2010 and has gone from strength to strength. You can now go just about anywhere tourist worthy in affordable, clean and fast comfort. You buy a rechargeable card which you tap onto turnstiles, like a metro system and the busses have mostly got their own roads to travel on too. I cannot recommend it enough.

Parks & Nature
http://www.eagle-encounters.co.za/ This little project rehabilitates birds of prey mostly, although the odd Ibis makes an appearance too. I'm mad about our feathered friends so I adore this experience. You can usually get to pet a baby owl or somesuch and there are shows where you can experience trained falcons first hand. They will even sit (hopefuly only sit!) on your head. Its a great cause and the kids will love it. Also of course it is adjoining one of the nicest wine farms so it is a real time saver.

http://capepoint.co.za/ Get there early as there can often be a queue of cars which might mean you spend up to half an hour waiting to get in. Take a swimming costume and a picnic too! Most people just go to the point and the Cape of Good Hope and take THAT photograph. I recommend going to Bortjies Drift for a picnic and a swim in the awesome tidal pool. Drive around and get out and walk around and if you are really into nature set aside the day and go for a hike, there are many to choose from. There are plenty of animals roaming about and its all totally safe. Almost nobody does this and it is a real waste, on the other hand its great for the few who do as the peace and quiet are great!

https://www.safarinow.com/destinations/sea-point/popularattractions/sea-point-pavillion-swimming-pool.aspx This is probably the most awesome public swimming pool in the world! Ok, I'm biased, I used to go here when I was a kid and I still do and I still love it. But really, it is wonderful. The views from the pool area of the sea and the mountains are just wonderful. Its a real local gem that very few tourists take advantage of and it is very cheap too. It is a sea water pool so if you have chemical sensitivity issues this one is for you.
