Mesa Falls is an incredible natural wonder to see. One of many great sites around Yellowstone Park that is not in the park. There are also ATV/UTV trails leading to Mesa Falls and you can pick up maps at nearly every store or gas station in Island Park. In the winter you can only see Mesa Falls by snowmobile, but it's easy groomed trails all the way.

Big Springs is a natural wonder. A river literally just starts at the foot of a mountain, seemingly out of nowhere, as water from Yellowstone's geysers and pools trickles through lava rock and reappears through springs at Big Springs. You can get to Big Springs by ATV/UTV or car in summer. In winter you can only snowmobile to Big Springs.

Cave Falls road is the only entrance into Yellowstone Park that does not have an official entrance gate. However, you are still supposed to have an active park pass to go in. This is a good sightseeing drive from Island Park. It's around 60 miles to get there so allow plenty of time for slower gravel roads. You can stop at the Timberline Golf Course for something to eat or drink. Just beware they do not allow dogs on the property and are very strict about it.

Howard Spring is near the Idaho-Montana border near the top of Targhee Pass. You can drink the crystal clear spring water and fill up your water jugs for your day of adventure. This is as good as any bottled water you can buy.

It's off the beaten path a ways but a nice drive for a picnic and to take in the beauty of the spring coming out of the side of the mountain.

A fun place to visit and learn more about bears and wolves than you knew before. There's an inside exhibit and information center. Outside you can watch the various bears and wolves that have been rescued and placed in the center. There's also quite a few birds of prey and a new aquatic life center. It's really a small zoo focused on wildlife around Yellowstone.

Recreation

Golfing, Hiking, Floating, Fishing and other recreation
The golf course is located in the Island Park Village area. It's a nice 9-hole course. Very beautiful surrounding mountain scenery. The course is rarely so busy that you have groups lined up to tee off. And it's very inexpensive compared to city courses. A round and a cart in 2021 was $30. You can't beat that.

River floating! Rent a raft and get a shuttle ride up river. Then enjoy the three hour float through calm waters and beautiful forest. Moose sightings are likely. But remember to give them space, they can hurt you if you don't respect their space.

A jacket, long pants and good shoes.

Even in the hot days of summer the nights get cool quick. Depending where you are there can be mosquitos or other insects that come out. Having long pants and a jacket will keep you warm and help stop the bugs from biting. Good shoes will pay off if you are hiking around Yellowstone or Island Park, and especially if you get lost or in trouble and have to walk far.
