Want to maximize the time you spent relaxing? Be sure to trade then your cooking with the next-door traditional restaurant "To Steki." They will be happy to care for you any time of the day. They will serve you even at the table outdoors of the house. We love the owner's family, especially the grandfather that lives full year-round in Platis Gialos.

This patisserie is a pretty place for sweets. We suggest you try creme brûlée, parfait, and loukoumades, all are impressive. The owners and staff are very kind and sweet.

Sightseeing

Sifnos Profitis Elias Monastery stands on the highest mountain of Sifnos island, 680 meters above sea level. The footpath leading to the monastery is sometimes narrow and steep and it takes at least one hour walking to reach the top. A special way to enjoy the adventure would be to take the path up at sunset. This way you will see perfectly the stars on your way down.

A stunning place to visit, with a very calm and relaxed feel. This is a very traditional place situated on a truly stunning part of the coastline and very close to Platis Gialos. The monastery itself is very authentic and peaceful, with the opportunity to step inside the church during the morning and afternoon.

Perfect blue water, serene, pebbles and sunbeds if wanted. Whilst this beach is a little out of the main town and isn’t the easiest to get to, if you can get there it’s well worth the effort. It is a perfect pebble beach with pristine blue waters with a sandy seafloor. There is no or limited phone signal so it was idyllic and as quiet as anything. There are two beautiful cafes/restaurants on the beach of a drink and or food is needed. The cafe ok the right when looking at the sea has some stunning pottery too, some of the best on the island. A very special place. An extra little tip - if you wait until just before sunset and then drive to the top lay-by with a big caterpillar bulldozer, you can get a stunning view of the sun setting over the sea and distant islands. Absolutely stunning!

City/town information

Kastro is one of the most fascinating and mysterious places on Sifnos. The town has been inhabited for over 3000 years and was at one time the capital of the island. To get to Kastro you can take a bus from Kamares or Apollonia or by car or motorbike. There is also an old footpath from below Artemona which is a beautiful walking trip due to the abundance of wildflowers and interesting plants and the fact that it is entirely downhill. The town is rich in antiquities and besides having an archaeological museum, there are artifacts scattered throughout the village. The white-washed village sits upon a domed rock that towers above the sea. To protect the town from pirates there were only five entrances in the massive walls that enclosed it. These could be locked by iron gates. When you enter the town you go through tunnels and passageways into a labyrinth of tiny streets wide enough for only two or three people to walk abreast. There are cafes, restaurants and several interesting old churches.
