Komos (or Kommos) is located on the outskirts of the village of Pitsidia, 66 km southwest of Heraklion and just 2 km north of the famous Matala. It is essentially the southernmost part of the long continuous beach of the Gulf of Mesara. The entire coastal front of the area is exposed to the westerly winds, which are relatively frequent in the summer and some days when the wave is quite high, care is needed. The northern part of Kommos, Potamos or Potamoserma, has been a well-known destination for nudist lovers for many years, since the time when hippies flooded the area. There are only a few tamarisks and barren lands around, as Kommos is located in a protected archaeological zone. Further south, near the archaeological site of Komos, there is an organized beach with umbrellas, sunbeds, toilets, showers, a canteen and a lifeguard. Around there are many tamarisks and sand dunes, where you can admire the white sand lilies, which bloom at the end of summer. If you want to find a place to stay or eat, you can choose Pitsidia or Matala.

It was founded in the 14th century and is related to the Kallergi family to which it belonged. It is considered one of the oldest monasteries in Crete since it is mentioned in a document of the Ducal Archive of Handaka (Heraklion) in 1393. The Monastery also includes a number of hermitages, as well as chapels with remarkable frescoes. This Monastery also includes the earlier monastic center of Saints Eutychians, where, according to tradition, Saints Eutychios, Eutychianos and Kassiani, the brothers, were buried. Brothers of the Monastery were also Saints Parthenios and Eumenios, the founders of the Holy Monastery of Koudoumas.
