Corfe Castle is a must visit. These magical castle ruins tower over the village of Corfe.
This ancient fortress was originally built for William the Conqueror’s son, King Henry I, during the 12th century and yet is only a small part of this village’s impressive history. Long before then, this hillside was settled by Saxons, Vikings and Romans and there is even evidence of prehistoric activity with several barrows on the southern edge of the village.
Walk across the bridge to this thousand-year-old castle, today cared for by the National Trust, and see the fallen walls, secret places, and ‘murder holes’.

TV buffs might recognise the beaches at West Bay from the ITV crime drama, Broadchurch.
There is plenty to occupy the holidaymaker here, with a great selection of one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants, as well as some excellent weekly street markets which celebrate local producers. Walkers can hike to the top of the coast path on the cliffs, while those who want to get out on the water can hire a rowing boat up the River Brit or join a fishing trip from the harbour.
