"Polstjerna" is an actual polar expedition ship, used to catch seals and whales. You can walk around most of the boat, and underneath the boat there's an exposition telling you where the explorers like Nansen and Amundsen gained the knowledge needed to equip their expeditions. Absolutely a must. Great view over the islands, the town center and even out into the open ocean. Great place to look for the Aurora Borealis/Northern Lights, looking towards the East away from the light pollution from the island of Tromso. Recently sherpas from Nepal have during three-four years built stairs all the way to the top. A very popular activity for thousands of local hikers, as well as tourists. A rather unusual architecture for a church, the shape giving it it's nick-name: It is not a cathedral, it's just Tromsdalen kirke/ Tromsdalen church. A beautiful little fjord with a small village 20 minutes drive from town center. I have visited this with most of my guests that want to see fjords (many from Brazil/Latin America). Very relaxing place, with some silversmiths and other small craftsmen. Lovely café named "Bryggejenten"/"Quay-girls" serves good coffee and easy meals.

A small village situated on two small islands outside Kvaloya. It is surrounded by a archipelago which is heavily visited during Summer. From the island you see the open sea - next stop is Greenland, I suppose ... A popular hotel, a small café, a small food store etc. Reindeers are often seen before entering the island. About one hour drive from town center.
