Why Cheboygan County? YEAR ROUND fun!
EVERY season is a great time to be UP NORTH in Michigan. The scenery is great and there are many activities to enjoy-boating, swimming, fishing, snowshoeing, antique shopping, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing! We have it all in Cheboygan County.
Mullett Lake is legendary for boaters around the Inland Waterway and Topinabee is the only town around its shoreline. Indian River and the sweet waters of Burt Lake are just around the corner. Our game fishing is fabulous, touted by competitive bass fisherman as the the best in the north country, and we’re famous to walleye seekers.

Boaters Paradise!
The Inland Waterway of Northern Michigan is one of the best boating experiences in the country. The waterway includes two of Michigan’s largest inland lakes-the 17,000 acre Mullett and Burt Lakes. Crooked and Pickerel Lakes are also part of the waterway. The lakes are connected by the Crooked, Indian and Cheboygan Rivers. It is 48 miles from one end of the waterway to the other and many bays and lots of shoreline in the lakes to explore. The Cheboygan River empties into Lake Huron to provide even more boating.
Topinabee is well situated on this route, with a public boat ramp, and a Township boat dock next to the best swimming beach on all of Mullett Lake.
Topinabee is the perfect port for all your supplies; have breakfast, or lunch at The Noka Cafe, or lunch and dinner at The Breakers Bar and Grill, or take out pizza or sandwiches from The Topinabee Market and Deli. Gas is available at the Topinabee Market. Tie up at the Township Dock Township that is across from the Topinabee Maket and near the Noka are utilize the dock at the Breakers. Topinabee is a northern Michigan paradise of fun things to do.

RECREATION ALL YEAR ROUND - Snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, ATVing
SNOWMOBILING/ATVs
Cheboygan County is the center for snowmobiling and ATV riders in northern Michigan. Snowmobiles can travel for miles on the many trails that connect to the West and East Mullett Lake Rail Trails. The local trail system connects to the Gaylord, Harbor Springs, Cheboygan, Petoskey, and Harbor Springs trail systems that provide 325 miles of riding. These trails connect to the Millersburg, Grayling, Jordan Valley and Antrim County trail systems that provide another 325 miles of riding.
There are several ATV and dirt bike trails in the area as well.
HUNTING/FISHING
In the summer of 2010, over 100,000 walleye fingerlings were planted in Mullett Lake as part of a cooperative project with the DNR, SOO TRIBE, and MULLETT LAKE PRESERVATION SOCIETY. Additional walleye were planted in 2011 and in 2012. Over 700,000 walleye of different sizes were planted in a three year period.
Fishing takes place all year in Mullett Lake and the lake becomes a village in the winter.
