Sightseeing

This is a fun quick trip to let children climb all over rocks and get some energy out. We have stayed just 30 minutes as well as over night camping. In the summer watch out for rattle snakes and take plenty of water to stay hydrated. It can get pretty hot.

This actually takes about 2 hours of very curvy roads. But worth it to our family. We pack a picnic and enjoy swimming and playing in the river after. On our way back stop and get some homemade ice cream and fabulous handmade products at Doc Martins store. And soak in the Gila Hotsprings. There are some you can pay for and others that are naturally flowing in the river if you don’t mind a short little hike.

This is right in town. It is the location of the mines Silver City was named after. They are all fenced so not to worry about danger. It can be as long and strenuous as you want. My small children hike here with no problem. This can be a crowded and have lots of dog walkers. Beautiful views without having to go anywhere.

If there is a festival happening, this is most likely where it will be. You can’t miss it. It’s open area with grass, and gazebos in the center.

This place is so fun to play! It’s beautiful! The water is nice and cold in the summer. We like to go all year round. It takes about an hour and a half to get there so take lunch and plenty of water.

This is for the historians. There are Native American pictographs everywhere. People have also found buttons from war uniforms because it was a battle site. It’s a little over an hour away and sort of hard to know when you are there. You will need more specifics if you make the trip.

This tiny town holds the buckhorn restaurant which is an old saloon. It’s a fun walk through time experience. The views are so nice! There’s plenty of camp grounds near a creek (if it’s running) just past PA. There’s also a little old house that is a museum.

This is close to the cliff dwellings. It’s a local experience. Fun for any outdoor enthusiast. Our children love to bring nets so they can catch crawdads and bugs in the river.

This is a local favorite! The stuffed calabacitas, and mozzarella balls, and create your own pizza are our family’s favorite! They also have $1 tacos on Tuesday and Thursday’s. Unfortunately it’s not consistent as much anymore. Sometimes the food and service is excellent, other times not so much.

This place is a little hidden local Mexican food gem. It’s only open for lunch on the weekdays. That’s the downside. The food is awesome and the service is extremely fast!

Kids choice

Kids want to have fun too.
This is a cute park perfect for children. It’s one of our children’s first choices. Even if you can get yourself and other adults a latte and come just for 30 minutes your children will thank you. There is a little kids side and a big kids side. It’s mostly fenced with two exits.

Not a big tourism attraction, but definitely part of Silver City personality.
