“In summer you can't beat a trip to Lake Bolsena, which is about an hour away. The water is warm, clean and beautiful to swim in. If you drive around the lake there are many areas to park and go for a dip and a little sunbath on the volcanic sand. The town of Bolsena is pretty and has lots of restaurants to suit everyone.”

Spa
“A fabulous spa facility at the Terme baths at Viterbo. The remains of Roman baths, the healing waters and mud is still recognised for its healing qualities. In medieval times, the baths were a favourite destination for many Popes, hence the name. Would highly recommend a visit. About 30 min drive from the property You can either visit the baths alone for their healing qualities or alternatively visit the Spa with a wide selection of face and body treatments. Closed on Tuesday ”

“ The Tower Bridge , 230 m long , symbol of the city : it was the most spectacular part of the aqueduct of Cortaccione of Roman origin . It is considered a Roman - Lombard building according to some , late medieval according to others , unique in its height of 82 m . The monument is covered by a delicate operation monitoring of the stress state of the walls . It is considered an anomaly at the time of its construction : in fact , rarely in the same era were built civil use of such grandeur . The work is celebrated by Goethe in his Italienische Reise . The place has become infamous in time for the occurrence of some incidents of suicide [ 5 ] . Extreme towards Monteluco is the small Mill Fortress , turreted building that for centuries has played a supervisory role on the bridge .”

“Civita di Bagnoregio Civita was founded by Etruscans more than 2,500 years ago. Civita was the birthplace of Saint Bonaventure, who died in 1274. The location of his boyhood house has long since fallen off the edge of the cliff. By the 16th century, Civita was beginning to decline, becoming eclipsed by its former suburb Bagnoregio.”

“In 1527, in the day following the sacking of Rome, Pope Clement VII took refuge in Orvieto. To provision with water the Albornoz fortress in case of siege or conflict, this well was built, based on a plan of Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane. The St. Patrick well, completed in 1537, is 62 metres deep and, at the inside, two double-spiralled stairwells were made, planned for easier transportation of water.”

“Orvieto and Lago di Bolsena. Orvieto is one such Etruscan place. The town sits on a massive tufa rock jutting out of the earth like a gigantic loaf of pane. Steep walls rise from the Tiber River Valley. A grand old dame of undiminished beauty, the massive Gothic-Romanesque Orvieto Cathedral is the jewel in the crown. Orvieto’s most popular Etruscan legacy is a cheeky dry white wine or two. Grapes like Trebbiano, Grechetto and Orvieto Classico DOC. Before you enjoy too much of that though - not to be missed is the aforementioned Duomo of Orvieto - and the adjacent Museo d’art. The Etruscan caves (Take the guided tour: Orvieto Underground) which were burrowed under the city for wells, wine storage and the odd pigeon. (Palomba meat prepared with red wine, black olives and spices is a delicacy in Orvieto). Nearby, Bolsena Lake, the largest volcanic lake in Europe, is a hidden little reprise from the summer heat atop the tufa. Think sandy beaches, trattorias selling delicious local treats. ”

“About an hour from Orvieto, just outside the city of Terni you will find the famous Marmore waterfalls (of Roman origin), generated by the jump of the Velino river to the underlying Nera river. The jump of about 170 meters of Velino makes it the highest waterfall in Europe. The green area around the waterfall is equipped with five different routes of varying dificulty. They allow you to walk side by side with the water, offering panoramic evocative views. For sports lovers the most extreme rafting starts right from the foot of the waterfall and continues the path of the river. ”
