Stogursey – upravo rezervirano

Located at the foot of the Quantock Hills, within the curtilage of Gothelney Hall (a beautiful Grade I listed farmhouse, family home and working farm), the Stableblock is a recently and lovingly restored space which can accommodate up to 4 people for cosy, romantic & family friendly retreats in the heart of the countryside. Eat, Drink, Do.
In the heart of the English countryside and at the foot of the Quantock Hills, Gothelney Hall and the land on which it stands has been settled on as far back as 1026. Referenced "Godelege" (Good Meadow) in the Doomsday Book, and renamed "Gothelney" ('open fields') in Anglo Saxon times the land here has been farmed for over a thousand years. Its current guardians, we are in the midst of a process of renovation of the Hall and its outbuildings, the Stable Block being the most recent (and completed) example. We offer its spacious, yet warm and characterful environment for your exclusive use during your stay.
Owing to the large number of visitors we encounter on their way too or from Cornwall we are available for 1 night stays. But please please consider extending your trip, this is a worthy destination in its own right - hunker down by the log burner and play board games in December, or enjoy exploring the farm and fresh air in the warmer months. We'd like to think this is the idyllic rural retreat rather than one night stopover!
  • We had a great stay at the Stableblock - we received a friendly and enthusiastic welcome from Victoria who showed us around and gave us helpful suggestions for local eateries and places to visit in the area. We opted for the welcome pack offered by Fred, we felt this was good value - it contained the ingredients for a great breakfast including some of the farms own bacon and sausages (delicious). The kitchen also contained lots of basic items which would be helpful if you wanted to do some cooking. The location was perfect as we were surrounded by beautiful countryside and farmland but were only a short drive from the local town and villages. The property was warm, comfortable and clean, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider staying here again if in the area.

  • We had a very nice stay at Fred's location. The renovated stable was very nice to live in with a huge cooking area and living room.

  • Beautiful place... stunning inside and so much bigger than it looks on the website! Homely and comfortable and the location is amazing, thanks! Zoe and Co

  • Fred was really nice host, replied really quickly and really kind. He's been helpful all the way through. This place was fantastic for our family holidays. Especially we were presently surprised by the kitchen and the dining area. It was really large and clean so we enjoyed cooking and dining all the days. There were nearly everything we needed for cooking and dining so we didn't need to use the stuff we brought at all except for the chopsticks. The room was very warm and cosy and we all enjoyed staying there. There were two real wood fire places and we also enjoyed staying there playing card games. There are three shower rooms with toilet but only two showers were available due to some reason while all the toilets were usable. All of them were really nice and clean. The best place of the place was the kitchen and the dining place. We took lots of photos there and lots of talks through the nights. The Stable Block was located next to the Gothenley Hall (a castle looking building) and we were kindly invited for viewing guided by Fred's parents. It was really interesting and inspiring experience for all of us. There are one bed room with 2 twin beds, and one open bedding place with also 2 twin bed. Both area were nice and cosy and perfect for a family but if you are two couples, it won't be ideal.

  • fantastic stay! very comfortable and in a wonderful spot..and loved the pub down the track..great communication and will no question return again the next time I'm in the area... big thanks Paul

  • This home is absolutely fabulous! It's not in a tourist location, but a refurbished stable on a working farm. We only stayed one night in route from Cornwall to London, but upon arrival we longed to spend several days there. The interior is right out of a House Beautiful magazine. Fred had every essential ready for our arrival, and we enjoyed seeing the piglets while exploring the farm. If you have a chance to stay here don't pass it up!

    Mimi2017-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • This was a second visit to the farm to stay in this wonderful converted barn. We were visiting Somerset with friends for a Cider Tour. Most people pass through this fantastic county, yet there is lots to do within a short drive. A highlight of the trip was a visit to Sheppy's Cider Farm which has just opened a new visitor centre and restaurant. Anyway back to Gothelney. Fred and his family are the perfect hosts and again made us feel very welcome. The place is quite spacious but still cosy with log burners if it cools. Whilst we were there we also took short walks around the farm and even joined Fred one afternoon to learn about some of the interesting and innovative projects he is working on to improve the land that he farms. We would highly recommend asking Fred to leave a welcome pack of food, and also if you get the chance, make sure you sample a pork joint from one of the pigs that Fred has bred at Gothelney.

  • What can I say, this place is really quite unbelievable, the hosts were fantastic, the setting is beautiful and the accommodation they should really charge more for. Great space for relaxing, caught up with some friends while there and it certainly left us all very impressed. Whatever you do, stay for more than one night, you won't regret it. Thanks for the great time, hope to return in the future!

  • Enjoyable stay lots of places to visit Homely cottage very welcoming kids initially missed Wi-Fi but was a blessing in disguise as we had more quality family time friendly neighbourhood

  • Julie called us a few days before departure and gave us some local knowledge, firmed up directions and shared the key safe number. All very much appreciated. Found the cottage without problem, a pint of milk in the fridge, Christmas tree up, wood for the log burner and clear instructions on heating, use of fire etc. the cottage is as described, very clean and tidy and really well equipped. The back garden is secure so for those with pets/small children, another added bonus. parking is ok for one car but more than that and you may have to park up the street. Local pub is ok, we didn't eat there but they had a good selection of beers and ciders to enjoy and the cottage is superbly placed if you want to explore the Quantock Hills. Thoroughly recommended and a fantastic price.

  • Communication with Julie was smooth and easy. No stress about later arrival time. The village is quiet and surrounded by fields. The house itself is a real treat with log burner and logs to use!! Clean and bright home with a lovely feel, ample space and feels welcoming. Easy to park outside and a garden to enjoy at the back of the property. A lovely little retreat :)

  • Lovely little cottage which suited the needs of our 2+2 family.

    Ian2016-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very cosy cottage, the heaters are immediately effective on a chilly night and everything was clean and comfortable. Julie had provided the makings of tea and coffee and a packet of biscuits which were very welcome after a long walk.

    Brian2016-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • Great little village and amazing house. We had everything we needed. It was perfect for a weekend away.

  • The stay at Julies cottage was wonderful. We felt at ease from the very first second we entered this beautiful, cosy, clean and well-equipped place. Julie made us feel welcome by providing us (and our dog) with tasty biscuits, tea and coffee as well as some logs for the amazing fireplace. The cottage is exactly as described but even more spacious than it seems on the photos. The communication with Julie was really good and there were lots of useful informations about things to do provided in the cottage. We enjoyed the exceptional place with its lovely garden a lot and we hope to be able to come back very soon. Thanks a lot for everything!

A delightful private cottage annexe with separate entrance located approximately 5 miles from the Quantock Hills and with pubs 1 mile in either direction . The annexe has recently been refurbished and is situated in a quiet hamlet .
Rustic and cosy with a modern kitchen and clean living space with small open plan living room/ diner . Multi channel TV and full wifi access , good cellular connectivity ( rare in a rural location ) . The kitchen has slate underfloor heating for winter warmth. Please note this is not good for someone who lacks mobility as the stairs whilst rustic and cottage style are very steep . The bathroom is clean and boasts a fabulous bath only ( no shower ) .
The neighbourhood is a small hamlet with a larger village about 1 mile away .There is open countryside in the area and the quantock hills are about 5 miles away and within view of the cottage.
  • We had a lovely few days staying at the annex. The local walks were interesting and there was lots to see within a half hour radius too. Dunster Castle was a treat. The annex is well stocked with handy items and is beautifully presented. Diane is a star and very helpful with local information. Look forward to visiting again soon

  • It really was a great little cottage! Everything we needed and very clean, quiet and comfortable. Very private with a side entrance. Off street parking was a plus since we had a rental car as I was worried about damaging it. Easy to get to lots of destinations in Somerset as well. Diane, her husband and whiskey the Scottie were great and very accommodating. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quiet place to stay in the beautiful countryside.

  • Lovely accommodation in a beautiful rural location. Plenty of great walks and a short drive to many local beauty spots. A couple of good farm shops on the road to Bridgwater.

  • I loved staying in the cottage. It was spacious and clean and felt very homely. Diane was very welcoming and went out of her way to make me feel at home. She also had some great tips for exploring the beautiful Somerset countryside and was always available of needed. I would definitely recommend staying in the cottage.

  • My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay in this annex. Perfect, cosy, sucludded couples getaway spot. Newly refurbished but still with bags of character, Diane, the onsite host could not have been more hospitable, we wanted for nothing! Already working out dates for when we can return! Very happy

    Benjamin2016-03-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at the country cottage. When we arrived Diane was there to greet us and tell us about the area. The accommodation was clean and tidy, a really lovely space to relax in. It's also very private from the main house too, so you don't feel as if you're there with anyone else. There is a pub about a 10 minute walk away which does lovely food. You will need a car to get about but we drove to some lovely walks in the quantocks, perfect with a little doggy.

  • Really excellent host! Offered a cup of tea upon arrival and was even asked if I would like a plate of food. Mike’s house is a 2 minute walk from one of the pick up points for the HPC shuttle bus so really handy if you’re there for work. The house was clean, tidy and welcoming. Bed was super comfy and I had an excellent nights sleep. I believe there’s no shops nearby but I was told there is a pub that does food near the house. I’d had a really long day and was shattered so was very glad to be made to feel welcomed and allowed to relax! Excellent value for money also! Would highly recommend.

  • Miriam is a wonderful host, anticipating your every need in her lovely home. Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, the best shower we've had in the UK, easy access and parking and if you wish - the company of Miriam and her lovely husband Steve to make you feel at home. Great pub is easy walking distance for dinner. And what a surprise - a full breakfast to see you on your way. Do yourself a favour and visit Nether Stowey and Miriam. Great for a stopover on your way through the region or as a base for exploring beautiful Somerset. Highly recommend!

  • A great reception and a very clean and open airy house. Miriam even had some food that I shared with her and her husband on arrival which was not expected. We all chatted and communicated very well - representative of the Air BNB experience. Village is local so a trip to the pub is also easy. Ian

  • This is a lovely new(ish) home. Our room, was excellent: spotlessly clean and crisply furnished, as was the bathroom, (in fact the whole house!) but the best bit of it all was our host, Miriam, who was friendly, kind, considerate and thoughtful, especially when we had to support my Father in hospital and weren't able to get back until 3am in the morning! Breakfast (good quality and freshly cooked) was especially welcome as we'd missed mealtimes from lunch onwards. We will certainly return and would recommend this home to anyone. Thank you so much Miriam, you are a superstar.

New on the market for 2017 and newly refurbished, Groom’s Cottage is tucked in the folds of the Quantock Hills and close to the fossil-rich beach in Kilve. Perfect for walking, horse riding and mountain biking, it’s only a short walk along our no-through lane and on to the hills and half a mile to the village shop and pub. The cottage sleeps 4 in 2 double rooms, has a brand new bathroom and an open-plan downstairs. It forms the west wing of our farmhouse whose grounds you are welcome to enjoy.
The Quantock Hills, immediately above the cottage, are Somerset’s unspoilt wilderness. Here, the open land is criss-crossed with footpaths and bridleways, including the nationally important Coleridge Way, where you can follow in the footsteps of the romantic poet or link to the Two Moors Way and the South West Coast Path. Although the self-catering cottage feels a world away from the hubbub of modern life, it is just an hour’s drive from Bristol (M4/M5 interchange) and closer to London than Devon or Cornwall.
  • The cottage is even better than the pictures, it is a real home away from home. We visited over the August bank holiday and luckily had fantastic weather. We took our little dogs with us who loved all the walks that are local to the cottage. The Cottage has all the amenities you could require. The decor has been thoroughly thought out for visitors and feels very homey with lots of lovely touches. Ann was a great host who was on hand with any advice/tips about the area. Ann has set up the cottage perfectly for a quick get away for a weekend or a long week. The area around the cottage has lots to do. We had ate at the Hood arms in Kilve (a fantastic Sunday Lunch) and the Babbling Brook in Shurton, both were wonderful with great service. We also visited Kilve beach and walked the coastal path with the dogs along with Dunster beach which is also dog friendly (about 25 minute drive away). Dunster town is very quaint with a beautiful castle. The highlight of the weekend was a walk along the Coleridge way which is a few 100 feet away from the cottage, we spotted a deer right at the top. There are also breathtaking views at the top of the rolling Quantock hills. My family loved our weekend away, thanks so much to Ann and Mark for sharing their beautiful cottage with us.

  • We booked for four nights over the Christmas. Ann was fantastic with her communication from the start. She sent us directions that were easy to follow. The cottage was stunning with everything you could possibly need and spotless. With three dogs we wanted to take them on walks and this was easy from the cottage, no leads required which was great. The area was easy to access other parts of Somerset or Devon, which made it an ideal place to stay. It was great finding some where that took 3 dogs with no extra cost. The biscuits Ann left were yummy. We really hope to stay here again in the not to distant future.

  • We stayed here for one night and absolutely loved it. The cottage is really well presented and has a lot of little amenities you don't always get with Air BnB's. We decided to cook on the night rather than go to the pub and the house had everything you need to make a meal, there's also a lot of condiments etc which is really useful. The bedrooms are both nice and the bathroom is nicely refurbished. Ann was a great host and really helpful with directions etc.

  • This cottage is perfect for a weekend of mountain biking. The best Quantock routes run right from the door and Ann and Mark have great bike washing and lockable storage. The cottage is exactly as described - cosy, comfy and well furnished.

  • Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Ann was very warm and welcoming. I couldn't have wished for more. Thank you, we will definitely be back.

  • The cottage is absolutely wonderful, quiet location, could not of asked for more. The attention to detail is superb, everything you need has been thought about and provided. And such a friendly place, everybody, but particularly Ann, were so kind and welcoming.

    peter2017-06-25T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully secluded cottage within walking distance of the beach and the Quantock Hills. It's been recently renovated to a really high standard, and is beautifully decorated. Ann was a delightful host, and was there for whatever we needed. We loved this place, tucked away in a very special part of Somerset that's still a well kept secret. We will return for sure!

Our Victorian Apple house is set in a beautiful English garden at the foot of the Quantock hills. A peaceful and perfect location for walking, cycling, pub lunches and trips to the coast. The Apple House is on a small working family farm on the out skirts of the village. The house was built on my grandfather's apple store using oak from the farm and still has the original 1930s Aga. It's such a magical place in an epic location and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
A quiet country retreat. A working farm. Galleried bedroom. Peaceful and relaxing.
Remote, quiet. Very few people. Very beautiful. Typical English countryside.
  • Staying at the Apple House was a real joy and a home from home. This was the perfect place to stay to show our American friend the best of England. A great place to visit places such as Minehead, West Somerset railway, Dunster, Kilve Beach, Horner Vale, Porlock and other amazing places within a short drive away. All six of us stayed comfortably in the house, there is a fully working oven so I could prepare meals and the fridge had ample room for our groceries that we brought with us. The views from all the windows are beautiful and the garden in August was bursting with flowers. The locals were very friendly and it made our holiday a very happy one. We look forward to visiting again in the future and would recommend The Apple House.

  • We had a lovely stay in quaint Apple House. The location was perfect, tucked away in the countryside but within easy reach of lots of places to sightsee and local amenities. The house was charming and tastefully decorated, it was equipped with all we needed. Sophie was a fantastic host, helpful and responsive. Many thanks....

  • Private, secluded, quiet - just what we wanted for a few days

    Suzanne2017-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • We would recommend this wonderful little house tucked away in the beautiful surroundings of Somerset. It was stocked very well. Local shops were a short car journey away and larger supermarkets were available at Bridgwater- only a 20 min drive away. We had a lot of fun exploring the local area including the quantock hills and also exmoor national park. Hosts were extremely hospitable and helpful at all times. The vegetable garden and the apple and plum trees next to the house are especially worth a mention. The fruit was sweet and fresh and we were given a huge basket of vegetables which lasted us a whole week! We truly enjoyed our stay. Thank you to Sophie.

  • Lovely house in peaceful and tranquil location. Tastefully furnished to a good standard. Good communication from host. Would recommend without hesitation.

  • We thotoughly enjoyed the whole experience of staying in the Apple House. The location is perfect for walks in the Quantock Hills, spotting semi-wild ponies there, and which ever way one turns there is a beautiful view. It must be extremely visually healthy to spend more time there. The Apple House is charming as well as well-funtioning. There's all you need, in addition to a little stroll to a charming little village shop, where one can fill up for the fridge. Sophie and her family welcomed us with such warmth and hospitality that we felt very welcome. Our last meal there was all based on fresh vegetables we were offered from the ripe garden. Defineitely worth a visit!

Hello and welcome to Gramarye House, a period home in a rural village and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. I hope my house will be a home from home for you. Your spacious room has a hospitality tray and kettle and there is free wi fi. There are no TV's in the rooms but there is one downstairs and you are welcome to use the drawing room when free. The house is also used for retreats so peace and quiet are key. I am on hand for requests such as laundry, ironing, newspapers or evening meals (for a small reasonable extra cost) .
Spaxton is a real rural village. Not chocolate boxy or a dormitory village, there are farming families here who have been working these fields for generations. Please respect that, close gates in fields and stick to the footpaths - there are loads. There is fabulous walking, cycling and bird watching to be had on the hills and the coats is only a 15 minute drive with the rugged cliffs of Kilve and East Quantoxhead to the marshes at Steart. For the less energetic a stroll around the village will show you the historic church, pub and shop where you can stop for a coffee or ice cream. There are few pavements and no streetlights so a torch and a high vis something might be helpful if you plan an evening in the pub.
  • Excellent get away with scenic views. Melanie offers brilliant breakfast in a very comfortable home.

    Jas Singh2017-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • Melanie is a warm, welcoming, friendly host who allowed us all the privacy we wanted, yet was on hand if we had any questions. Her home is very peaceful, tastefully decorated and comfortable. Our bedroom was quiet, comfortable and clean. We were given a front door key to come and go as we pleased and the continental breakfast was locally sourced and ample. The WiFi was good, although, as common in countryside locations, the mobile signal was intermittent. We were able to relax in the lounge and watch the television, which was great seeing the Cup Final was on! This was our first experience with AirBNB and we're delighted to have found Melanie's place.

The Old Stable is nestled in a beautiful Farmhouse garden at the foot of the glorious Quantock Hills. Spacious, fully equipped, oozing with character & sleeping up to 5 guests. A peaceful haven to relax & unwind & the perfect base for exploring the scenic footpaths, enjoying horse riding, cycling, fishing, pub lunches, cream teas & trips to the coast. A sunny courtyard with pretty garden views & a cosy wood burner awaits for those cooler months. Home to horses, chickens, ducks & sheep!

There is a modern shower room with an electric shower, a wood burning stove, private south facing courtyard and ample parking to the front of the farmhouse.
We are located high up on the edge of the village of Spaxton with fantastic views over Bridgwater Bay across to Wales. On a clear day you can see Glastonbury Tor, Flat Holm and Steep Holm. The village is semi rural with several working farms and a whole network of footpaths taking you across the unspoilt countryside. Hawkridge reservoir is half a mile away and popular with the fishermen. Enmore golf club is 2 miles away. There are numerous horse riding stables within the vicinity. Spaxton community stores and post office stock a wide range of local produce, alcohol and daily essentials. The Lamb Inn is very popular and offers great food and has a lovely beer garden. The County town of Taunton is 7 miles away and Bridgwater is 5 miles away. Exmoor National Park and the Somerset Coast are a short drive away. The area has an abundance of wildlife. There are some fantastic bird watching spots, wild ponies can be seen on the beautiful scenic walks and deer rutting can be witnessed in the autumn.
  • Such a glorious spot! Eve's place is impeccably clean, neat and tidy. Her garden is absolutely fantastic and she and her family were really welcoming and were on hand if we needed anything. Thank you again! Orla :)

  • The Stable is lovely - it's homely but also a very special place to stay. Lots of room. Very quiet and peaceful. Fresh eggs were fab for breakfast and Eve made us very welcome , we also loved making a fuss on Indie. We would definitely love to come back again when in the area. Also got to light the wood burner and that was great. Thanks for making our brief stay so welcoming.

  • We had a wonderful stay here. Eve is a welcoming and helpful but unobtrusive host. The property is as described and very homely and cosy with everything being in good working order. The photos reflect the property very well. I would say that the reality actually exceeded my expectations. The house also has everything you might need. It is in a perfect location for visiting many local attractions. I would stay here again.

  • Stunning location for perfect peace. Our grandchildren were delighted and excited to sleep in the stables. Bedrooms are separated only by stable stalls which was just fine for our family with my husband and I in one and my daughter and two children in the other. Living space comfortable and relaxing and beautiful garden. Only there one night for a funeral which gave us the peace we needed. Would like to return, I'm sure star gazing would be amazing

This delightful and unique octagonal house, formerly an 18th century smallholder's cottage, nestles in an idyllic and peaceful setting by a bubbling stream and a wonderful waterfall in a wooded combe in the heart of the Quantock hills.
This delightful and unique octagonal house, formerly an 18th century smallholder's cottage, nestles in an idyllic and peaceful setting by a bubbling stream and a wonderful waterfall in a wooded combe in the heart of the Quantock hills. It is surrounded by it’s own garden and National Trust land, with endless miles of walks amongst ancient oak and beech trees and on the heathland, with its ponies, sheep and red deer. Reached via an unmade track and over a footbridge, it doesn’t get much more rural than this, and makes for a perfect holiday hideaway. Superb for mountain biking, bird watching and walking, it really is a little slice of heaven, and from our experience, once visited most people book their return.   Shop 1½ miles, pub within walking distance. 2 miles away is the fossil rich coast at Kilve.    Spacious living room, overlooking waterfall, with wood-burning stove set in an inglenook fireplace. Fitted kitchen/dining room, adjoining bathroom with toilet. One step to a double bedroom with king size bed. Twin bedroom (with trundle bed under, making it a triple) with en-suite shower room and toilet. Both bedrooms have luxury Egyptian cotton linen and towels, robes and slippers. Bedrooms have interconnecting doors.
Well it’s impossible to tell you about all the wonderful places to see and do around here. Just walking and biking on the hills is brilliant, but should you want to take the car, there are many places to visit. Exmoor is wonderful, fabulous scenery beautiful little villages and spectacular coastline. Main roads can be pretty busy in school holidays. Bath, Bristol and Exeter are well worth a visit if you want good shops (see separate section). Bath Abbey and Roman Baths are well worth a visit, but quite a drive. Exeter is about an hour’s drive away but it’s a really delightful city. The cathedral is magnificent and you can visit the tunnels which run under the city and are very interesting. The Princess Hay shopping area was re-built in 2007 and is very impressive if shopping’s your thing. There are also lovely walks and little shops and cafes by the river. Nearer to Holford, Taunton is our county town. The river runs through the centre of the town and with the hills around it is very attractive, the museum is great. As well as all the usual shops and restaurants, it is the home of Somerset Cricket. (Think Sir Ian Botham and Viv Richards). Our local coastline is not good for bathing, but Kilve and Lilstock have pebbly beaches with lovely views and are very unspoilt, fossils abound. Blue Anchor, Dunster Beach and Minehead are our nearest bathing beaches. Also Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-Super-Mare are not far. For surf, head to the North Devon Coast at Woolacombe or Putsborough. West Somerset Railway runs from Bishops Lydyeard to Minehead. It’s a steam railway with many stops along the way, but the one at Williton is closest. This is a really charming little station, be-decked with flowers and having many old-fashioned features, even down to the luggage on the platform, dating back to the glory days of steam. Tropiquaria in the old radio station just past Williton on the A39 is excellent for small children. There is a brilliant pirate ship, numerous climbing frames and various animals, birds and reptiles. You can even hold a boa constrictor or a tarantula if that appeals to you? There’s a café and indoor play area. Another place that is a good day out is Watchet. It has a charming small town feel to it and the Marina area, with the steam train puffing by, on a bright summer day with gulls overhead, looks like something out of a children’s painting. There are numerous quirky shops to browse around. There is access to the beach if you walk up the hill towards Blue Anchor, about 200 yards. It is a pebbly beach and not for bathing, but children love crabbing there. Also for children and families, there is Butlins at Minehead. It’s a fun day out with a great pool and lots for the children to do. Minehead itself is a lovely seaside town with the usual amusement arcades and bucket and spade shops but also some pretty boutique and gift shops too. It has a fabulous vegetarian cafe with a health food shop below called Toucan Whole Foods which I highly recommend. Devon and Dorset are not too far away if you fancy a day out. Somerset is a most beautiful and varied county, the second largest in England. There are so many different areas to explore, but I have to confess, our favourite is still the Quantocks! Other things to do:- BIKING/MOUNTAIN BIKING The Quantocks have become very popular with mountain bikers over the past few years, you get sweeping hills, woodland, exposed heathland as well as steep gnarly descents. GOLF The nearest golf course is at Cannington. Not particularly pretty and Has nine greens and 18 tees. Quite flat, about £12 a round. The nicest golf course nearby is Enmore Park at Enmore near Spaxton (not far from Bridgwater) Tel. 01278 671244. FISHING Sea fishing. Many people fish from the shore at Lilstock and Blue Anchor. There are a couple of boats which go out of Watchet Harbour. Fly fishing. Fly fishing is possible on Durleigh Reservoir near Bridgwater and there are various stock ponds in the Dulverton area on the edge of Exmoor. There is salmon fishing on quite a few of the Devon rivers, notably the Exe.
  • The Roundhouse is amazing and a perfect tranquil break from the city, which is just what we needed. Kate takes pride in her property and everything was spotless and in modern style and taste. The house is located in an amazing part of Holford, Somerset with incredible views and wildlife to keep you company! A cream tea is also provided on your arrival. Would definitley visit again!

  • What a wonderful cottage in a stunning location with lots of thoughtful homely touches. Lovely and welcoming hosts. Highly recommended for a relaxing break, or an energetic walking or mountain biking holiday. Beautiful scenery in the surrounding area close by and slightly further afield on Exmoor. We will definitely visit again!!

    James2016-06-04T00:00:00Z
  • Our first impression of the Roundhouse was sheer delight. It was like a secret cottage in the woods. The cottage well equipped and very comfortable. We only stayed for 3 nights and didn't want to leave. We cooked Sunday lunch and everything we needed was there. The finish is to a high standard and many of the little things provided like bathrobes, fluffy towels and lovely cotton sheets were really appreciated as was the welcome tea and scones and a bottle of wine. The area is beautiful particularly for walking.

    Marilyn2016-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Round House is extremely comfortable, clean, well-equipped and every attention to detail has been thought of by Kate. The garden was immaculately tended and the property's situation is truly breathtakingly beautiful and tranquil apart from the sounds of the waterfall and birdsong. Amazing walks from the door step and minutes in the car to the coastal path. Highly recommend the hosts, the accommodation and the location.

    Kate2017-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • A superb location for the hills and coast. We had a great time and would highly recommend this lovely house.

    Janie2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • The photos do not do this property justice. The Round House is surrounded by woods. A running stream on the property can be seen from the sitting room window. The house is immaculately clean, spacious, comfortably and stylishly furnished and provide for all your home comforts. There are luxury touches throughout. Most comfortable beds. We stayed with our daughter, son in law and their Toddler. We also took our two little terrier dogs and they and our little grandson enjoyed the safe and large garden. Home from home! We will definitely be going back in the Summer.

  • Before we had even arrived Rose and Jonty were in contact to make sure we had a smooth journey and all the directions we needed. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and shown our beautiful cottage. There was a wonderful cream tea waiting for us with amazing homemade scones and a bottle of wine. We felt spoilt before our mini break had even started. The cottage is delightful with all modern conveniences and is beautifully finished. We wanted for nothing. The surroundings were pure joy, completely secluded and quiet, surrounded by hills and more hills, whilst dogs, cats and horses completed the idlyic setting, the perfect get away from a busy lifestyle. All together a perfect stay and one we would not hesitate to repeat. A big thank you to our hosts.

  • A beautiful building in a beautiful location. My Mum and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay on this beautiful farm. Rose and Jonty were both very welcoming and friendly (then even offered to keep our fire going when we popped to the village, for dinner!). Lots of beautiful walks and things to do in neighbouring towns and villages. Dunster castle/grounds was beautiful...we also ventured further west to Lynton and did a North Devon coastal walk. Excellent all round!...a great break away, highly recommended!

  • A wonderful experience from start to finish. This is an enchanting "escape" in the most stunning location. The cottage is beautifully fitted out, and extremely comfortable, with perfect attention to detail. Beautiful quality bedding, soft fluffy towels, well equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge area, a gorgeous wood-burning stove... plus a bottle of wine and lots of posies of fresh sweet peas! The views are breathtaking, as you are quite literally surrounded by soft rolling countryside – you can walk for miles without using the car at all. Rose and her family were really warm and welcoming, and very happy to help with any queries or requests. We had a blissful week and would highly recommend this as a wonderful place to stay.

There is ample parking, and bed linen and towels are provided, as are tea, coffee and milk. Great Quantock is the highest house in the hills. It is tucked away down nearly one mile of unmade track and sits within 15 acres of its own pasture and woodland. We have several characterful country pubs within a short drive or picturesque walk. We are also on the fringes of Exmoor and close to the dramatic north Somerset coast, while the wonderful sandy beaches and surfing of North Devon make an excellent day out. A perfect haven for walkers and cyclists. Riders, we may be able to accommodate your horses by arrangement. Unfortunately we cannot accept dogs. No smoking. The Quantocks is a stunning area of countryside yet still relatively unknown and under visited. The views across to Exmoor to the West, the Somerset Levels to the East and the Bristol Channel to the north are breathtaking. We have a host of pretty villages tucked among the hills with lovely pubs and tea rooms nearby. A car is essential to get here as we are very tucked away. However, the walking/cycling is on your doorstep.
This is an extremely pretty area with thousands of acres of accessible countryside, dotted with delightful villages. We are close to the dramatic Somerset coastline to the north and a reasonable drive from many attractions including the surfing beaches of North Devon.
  • We had a lovely time at the studio, Julie and her husband were most helpful and kind. The studio is nicely decorated and clean with everything you need. They also took time to write us helpful directions how to get there and there was fruit, crossants, jam and a few little extras that made the stay extra great.

  • Julie's farm is a great place to get away to. Julie made us feel very welcome. The studio is lovely. Everything we needed.

  • Beautiful and well equipped accommodation with everything you could need and more! Very peaceful and comfortable and the hosts are very friendly and welcoming. Stunning views from the walk to the pub! Thank you, couldn't have been better x

  • Julie's self-contained studio in the heart of mature woodland in the Quantocks is an ideal cosy and quiet base from which to explore the area. We hiked the hills, coastal walked and mooched in historic towns. Driving back from pub suppers in Crowcombe and Holford was atmospheric and Julie's directions were our guide through the winding lanes and farm tracks. Three excellent nights away. Thank you!

  • Julie was lovely, and the flat was perfect for us. Beautiful countryside, and nearby walking trails. Could have stayed for a week!

  • We had a really wonderful stay and enjoyed spending time in the Quantocks hills. The studio was perfect, clean, warm and was equipped with everything we needed. The pillows were especially bliss (sarah said bedtime felt like sleeping on fluffy clouds). We had a really relaxing weekend dispite the weather. Julie recommended a local pub which did lovely food with friendly locals. All in all we had a fab time and would recommend it to anyone Thankyou Julie and hope to stay again

  • Lovely home, lovely scenery and lovely hosts. The photos don't do it justice. We had a great time and the walks around the surrounding hills were wondrous, somerset's own Xanadu! Would definitely stay again and will recommend to friends.

  • Staying at the Great Quantock farm is like living a dream.... the environment is breath taking...well situated for lot's of excursions or just as i did mostly, rest and enjoy all the beauty this place has to offer! (did go to Watchet, lovely town at beach & wandered around in the forest on walking distance of the farm) The studio itself is well equipped, cosy & clean, i immediately felt at home! Loved being surrounded by horses , dogs & cats!!!! As another guest wrote in the guestbook, the pictures don't do the place justice, i agree, it's far more beautiful & bigger than i thought. A specially the beautiful, spacey kitchen! Everything is provided! You can also watch dvd's & there's also a good map & touristic info. The hosts respect your privacy but are there for you if you want to. You won't have internet acces & the mobile coverage is poor (although possible), but that to me is an advantage if you really want to enjoy holidays! The private road towards the farm is amazingly beautiful!! Thank you Julie for sharing your gorgeous home!

  • An amazing country getaway! Jenny's converted stables is beautiful. Set in gorgeous Somerset countryside it is newly renovated with stylish interior and fabulous kitchen. We had some lovely cosy nights with our feet up in front of the tv with the wood burning stove roaring away. It is at the foot of the quantock hills so perfect for hikers and mountain bikers (and horse riders) and the lovely north Devon coast is a short drive away for day trips. Jenny was a fantastic host with a wealth of local information and she bent over backwards to make sure we made the most of our visit. We'd definitely recommend this lovely little treat for a romantic getaway!

  • We were warmly welcomed by Pauline and Bill with a hamper of consumable essentials which set us up for our first breakfast. Their house is beautifully decorated and equipped which added to our enjoyment. During our stay we enjoyed many chats with Bill and Pauline when they told us about how they rebuilt and developed the charming old farm buildings on their site. A wonderful place to stay to enjoy the delights of Somerset.
