“Nijo Castle (二条城) is world heritage. It was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu in 1603 as his Kyoto residence. In the grand chamber of this historic castle, the last shogun Yoshinobu announced “Taisei Hokan, or the return of government power to the emperor just before the Meiji Restoration in 1868. The Ninomaru Palace in the castle compound is famous for its floors that give a squeaky sound just like a nightingale’s song. The palace is also well-known for its strolling-style garden with a pond containing three miniature “islands.””

“The sloping road with 1.2 km long from Higashi-oji street to Kiyomizutera is called Kiyomizu Saka, there are lots of souvenir shops for tourist at both sides. The shrine is leveled land with stone wall in the middle of Kiyomizuyama (Otowa Mauntain) at 242 meter elevation and lots of houses stand side by side. After passing the Nioumon gate at the entrance, go straight at the West gate, three-story pagoda, Buddhist library, Tamura-do and Asakura-do and arrive at the main hall. After passing the main hall, Shakado and Amidado, you may see Okunoin standing at the cliff and the fall with very famous water, so called Otowanotaki. If you go further in a southern direction from the Otowanota, you may see the Taizan-ji over the valley named as Kinunkyou, and three-story pagoda named as Koyasutou. Furthermore, there are Jinushi Shrein in a northern direction of the main hall and the main house of chief priest named as Seijyuuin.”

“Yasaka shrine is known for the name of “Gion-san” in general and called “Gion-sha” (the “sha” means shrine in Japanese) in acient. This is HQ of shrine in Japan and it is said that it was established in 876 to pray for the recovery from epidemic after the priest Ennyo invited the Emperor Ushizu to Kyoto, and peoples in Kyoto tried to enshrine this shrine and escape from such epidemic. Base on such history, Gion committee was started and the parade of decorated floats were conducted from the middle of Heian period and Gion committee has been held magnificently in July every year as the traditional festival of Yasaka Shrine. This shrine is famous for the prosperous business and charm against evil.”
