“This large park with lots of open space is also known as the Parc l'Escorxador (so named because it stands on the site of the old municipal slaughterhouse: escorxador in Catalan) and is used by visitors and locals from Barcelona's Eixample Esquerra to relax. This great urban "lung", full of possibilities, is located at the south-west end of the neighbourhood and is the perfect appetiser before you begin exploring the monumental Plaça Espanya. An artificial water channel runs parallel to Carrer Tarragona, lending coolness to this side of the Parc de Joan Miró. This is the site of Joan Miró's 22-metre-high monumental sculpture Dona i Ocell (Woman and Bird). Like the park, it was dedicated in 1983, shortly before the artist's death. There is a public library on the other side of the park, which is named after Joan Miró.”

“Les Arenes is a magnificent, huge shopping mall located in a renovated bull-ring. Long out of use for bull-fighting, it was recently converted into a wonderful place to shop for items of all kinds, stock up on groceries, have a coffee or an ice-cream, etc. The terrace restaurants merit a visit. ”

Point of Interest
“This is one of the lesser-known urban-art spots in the neighborhood of Hostafrancs. It’s a series of murals on the walls of the buildings adjacent to the Carrer de Creu Coberta. Surprisingly, you can spot them from Plaza Espanya, and you’ll notice that they’re signed by the artists, who happen to be among some of the best in the city. They were made for a small urban-art festival, Barcelona Mia Fest, in which artists such as Kenor, Pere, Uri, Nekor, Manu, Albert, Carles, Eric, and Alberto participated.”

Nezavisno kino
“Certainly the best independent cinema in Barcelona, Zumzeig is relatively small, but it’s one of the best facilities in the city when it comes to image and sound quality. Seeing a film there is an intimate experience, very enjoyable. And they’re always screening the best independent films. At the entrance, there’s a nice bar where people sit around debating the merits of the movie they just saw. It serves good craft beer and wine, plus excellent French cheeses and delicacies.”

“Not a mall -but it's the smaller version of Passeig de Gracia - all the major clothing stores are here as well in a smaller, more compact area. ”
