“The statue of Ly Thai To is situated in a nice garden overlooking Hoan Kiem lake (also called Sword lake). In 1010, King Ly Thai To moved the capital from Hoa Lu to Thang Long (now Hanoi). Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, in Vietnamese is actually two words - “Ha” and “Noi”. Ha means 'river' and Noi means 'inner'. Ha Noi therefore means "Rivers Inner", so called because it is located between the Red River and Nhue River.”

“Bach Ma Temple is believed to be the oldest temple in Hanoi. This Buddhist temple was originally built in the ninth century by King Ly Thai To in honour of Bach Ma. According to a sign inside the temple, originally the site of the temple was Long Do Mountain. The temple was moved to its current location in the Old Quarter of Hanoi in the 18th century, during the Ly Dynasty, to guard the east side of Thang Long. The translation of Bach Ma is ́White Horse ́ and this refers to a story behind the construction of the Temple. King Ly thai To had been struggling building the temple as its walls kept collapsing . It is said that a white horse delineated the best area to build the temple with its hooves to help the king in constructing the temple. •••• Address: 76 Hang Buom”

“VietNamNet Bridge - Located in Dong Xuan ward, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi, O Quan Chuong is the only remaining gate of the ancient Thang Long citadel. According to historical records, this gate was built in the 10th year of Canh Hung Dynasty (1749), called Dong Ha Mon (Dong Ha gate orthe gate of Dong Ha ward). This work was restored twice, in 1804 and 1817, under the reign of King Gia Long. The current architecture is the result of the first repair in 1804. O Quan Chuong was designed as a vong lau - a typical architecture of the Nguyen dynasty, with the front facing O Quan Chuong Street and the back looking to Hang Chieu Street. The gate has 2 storeys. The first storey has three doors: a door in the middle of 3m high and 3m wide, and two side doors of about 1.65m wide, 2.5m high.
