Bar Harbor – parkovi i priroda

National Park
“Absolutely beautiful park. Worth braving the crowds! If it's too crowded for hiking, the loop road is a very scenic drive.”

“They try real hard to find Whales for viewing. Sunfish typically come right up to the boat for viewing humans!”

“Thuya Garden is a gorgeous flowering garden located on a granite hillside overlooking Northeast Harbor on Mount Desert Island, Maine. It was originally designed and built in 1956 - 1961 by Charles K. Savage, a long-time resident of Northeast Harbor, along with financial support from John D. Rockefeller. The garden exhibits an English style influence with special input from Beatrix Farrand so that it will incorporate the unique character of the Maine coast. A variety of annuals and perennials line the two long sides of the garden. An open observation pavilion sits at the top of a slight incline on the north end overlooking the main garden that cascades down to a shallow reflecting pool below. Thuya Lodge was constructed from 1912 - 1916 by summer resident Joseph H. Curtis, its owner and Boston based landscape architect. The garden was constructed in an orchard also owned by Curtis. A memorial in his honor is located part way up the Asticou Terrace Trail. Thuya got its name from the abundance of white cedar (Thuya Occidentalis) located in the area.”

“This is a breathtaking Japanese-inspired garden featuring azaleas and other related plants. There is almost always something in bloom. Highly recommended for those who appreciate formal gardens. Contribution into an honor box.”

“Everyone has heard of Bah' Habbah' (Bar Harbor, Maine). It is the home to Acadia National Park. Very scenic, but also very crowded in the summer. 1 hour drive southeast of the Cottage, about 48 miles. As an alternative go to Belfast Harbor or to the Bucksport waterfront, much less crowded and equally as scenic. ”

“Right down the end of Fernald Point Road. . Takes only about 12 minutes to get to the top. Fantastic views. Have your Acadia National Park pass visable in your car. Easy hike but with a few rocks to scramble over a bit, near the top; not difficult.”

Beach
“This is a an alternate to Sand Beach which a lot of visitors don't know about. It has an outside shower and restrooms in the parking area accross the street. It's free, more accesable and better for small children than Sand Beach there are no steps and the water is shallow with no wave action. There's a short path through the park from the restrooms which will take you to Seal Harbor where you can get a sandwich or a drink.”

Lake
“Echo Lake-This sandy beach is great for beach toys, water guns, and burying people in the sand. The water is @ 15 degrees warmer for swimming than Sand beach on the park loop road. There are Lifeguards on duty from Memorial Day to Labor Day. You can also kayak on the lake away from the swimming area at Ikes Point. Across from Acadia Mountain is a parking area. If you go down through the woods to the water, there is a bluff that children love jumping off. ”

“A short path to take while someone else is shopping, along the shore frontage of several stately homes. Start out from Agamont Park and walk toward the Bar Harbor Inn. Keep going until it ends, about 3/4 mile.”

“For an hour and a half BEFORE and AFTER low tide, Bar Island is accessible to walkers via s sand bar for a unique view of Bar Harbor. CAUTION, watch the time carefully. You don't want to get stranded by fast, incoming 10 foot tides.”
