“Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) used to be the location of the royal palace, until it was destroyed in 1755 by the Great Earthquake. The royal family moved to another residence in the district of Belem, and the new arcaded buildings became the entry port of the city. Its north side hosts a triumphal arch and one of the city's legendary cafes, Café Martinho da Arcada, a favourite for writers Fernando Pessoa, Almeida Garrett and Eça de Queiroz. The centre of the square boasts the statue of King José I, which is 14 meters high”

“Founded in 1778 under the name Café da Neve (Snow Café), it then sold sorbets that in that period were famous across the city. In 1829, after a number of owners, it was sold to Martinho Bartolomeu Rodrigues, with the café soon becoming popularly known by the name of its new owner. Leading figures in Portuguese intellectual life were regulars with the café achieving its greatest fame due to the great universal poet Fernando Pessoa (1888-1935). In the café, he wrote the "Message", the only book he was to see published in his lifetime. The table where Pessoa would normally sit seems to be awaiting his return. On the walls, photographs reveal moments from the poet´s life in the Lisbon of the 30s”

“Praça do Comércio, Commerce Square in English, is Lisbon’s main square. It was built on the site where the old Royal Palace used to exist before it was destroyed by the earthquake of 1755. The southern end of the plaza is open and looks out onto the Tagus River. The other three sides have yellow-coloured buildings with arcades all along the façade. When the square was first built, the commercial ships would unload their goods directly onto this square, as it was considered the “door” to Lisbon. On the river bank, near the square, is the Cais de Sodré ferry terminal from which several ferries depart down the Tagus River.”

“Built upon wood piles and sometimes some have been replaced by concrete, but it is not an anti-sismic area. However it can be the right place to be if there is a earthquake (if without tsunami!). The riverside method from XI and XII century for piers, pontoons and access ramps. The wood is not only green pine everywhere. Millenium BCP in Augusta street is located upon romans structures (that can be seen by tourists. It is free and the entrance is in the street behind). Historic buildings have been built in pombaline cages to be able to resisit to movements os the techtonic plate. There is only one tunnel for water flow. On the Prata Street, the roman gallery was rediscovered after the earthquake and has been used as a cistern by people. Massonic Lisbon: Eugénio Santos and Carlos Mardel were masonics. Masonic symbols pretended to influence people in a uncounsicious way and down town seemed to ave been a giant massonic temple with 2 columns for the entrance. In the statue od the King S. José. Below th ehorse, there are few masonic symbolics. The Tot book is a mystic book from the ancient Egypt, that included all the esotheric images, but it was lost and reached our periode through the tarot cards, that has 78 blades that correspond to the number of archs of Terreiro do Paço Square. Howerve it has only 52 archs in front and this does not correspond anyore to the Tarot cards. Other symbolo: Agusta street/ Prata street (Silver _ symbol of Bad)/ Ouro (Gold – symbol of Good). Lisbon symbol is a stick with 2 snakes, that represent balance of the Universe. The squares of the Plaza are the symbol of the 3 rituals steps of the massonic beginners ceremony.”
