Our Casa Abierta has a deck w/ gorgeous views & is open plan w/ loft, kitchen, living/bedroom. There's lots of screens so it's very cool. Accessible to Managua in charming rural village next to forest walks on trails with views & wood-fired hot tub. *Note: Our place is extra peaceful because we *do not* have WiFi!
My husband Paul and I built the Casa Abierta (Open House) Cabin for our families to use on their visits to Nicaragua. We are delighted to make this charming space available to other visitors. It's next door to our own house where we live with our two daughters. We are 45 minutes - 1 hour from the airport (depending on traffic), and can do drop off and pick ups for $25 if arranged ahead of time. There is a bathroom with shower and hot water. There is a double bed in the loft upstairs and a queen sized bed downstairs, both with mosquito netting. It comfortably houses 4 people. The Casa is open plan with a small kitchen (fridge, two burner counter-top stove, sink & cabinets), dining table and living area. The cabin is very private, closed at the back to the road, but the front is screened to allow for maximum air flow. Paul is a furniture designer and maker, so there are tasteful touches of his work throughout the Casa. The wooden deck is the highlight of the house, it sits in the trees with a view out over the folds of the hills and dozens of tropical birds to spot. The Casa Abierta is very safe, the property has 24 hour security. It is close to nature walks, secluded and quiet, the perfect place for relaxation and retreat.
You'll have full access to the Casa Abierta cabin and its deck. You can do your own cooking in the kitchen at the Casa Abierta, or we can arrange for Nicaraguan-style meals to be delivered to you ($4 per plate). Let us know ahead of time and we can get the relaxing wood-fired hot tub going for you. There are walks down in the garden where we have a small zip line, up the hill to our rope swing and up the ridge for views of Managua.

My husband and I will be available for chatting, suggesting things to do and arranging guides and meals.
The path that goes past the Casa Abierta was used in Pre-Colombian times as a road for hunting on the ridge and hills behind the house. We have found intact axe heads right near the Casa Abierta where our rope swing and zip line are. We can arrange a local guide to take you on walks ($4-7) - 1 hour, 1/2 day or full day. Walks with Dominga include visiting the local village, early morning bird watching, visiting sites of the old community oven and communal laundry washing, hiking the ridge for views of Managua, or visiting nearby villages. The guide Dominga is a story teller, so if you speak Spanish a walk with her is a real window into village life and lore.
Smoke outside only, quiet after 10 pm please.
