Hi Geir-Olav. We are sorry your trip was not as expected. You happened to be in Franschhoek over two of the hottest days of the year so far, with temperatures having reached in the high thirties. (It was so hot that our school even cancelled all sport in the region: so you got particularly unlucky.) Each bedroom and the lounge do however have a strong fan in it, which assists with the heat and keeping mosquitoes away. There is also a mosquito repellent in one of the drawers. The distance from the centre of town is as advertised: 1.4km. It is a very pleasant flat walk and as one can see from the various other reviews, it takes between 10 and 20 minutes to get there, depending on pace. Walking after dark is not guaranteed safe anywhere in South Africa, which we all understand. One does ideally need a car in Franschhoek to experience the various places and wine farms. Unfortunately there is no regular taxi service at night. There is a tuk tuk service that needs to be booked, but it closes at 6pm.
