Lavender Hideaway is a sweet cottage set in beautiful grounds, on the top of a mountain, in a tiny village in Ithaca. If the description makes it sound magical, it is because it is. Perfect silence, sheep bells tingling, lavender and rosemary scents, a sparkling pool, and elegant, vintage interiors make it a perfect escape for solitary or family holidays. The rest of the small island of Ithaca with her lovely beaches and walking trails is at an arm's length, to complete an unforgettable holiday.
Nestled among vineyards, aromatic herbs and olive trees, in a tiny mountain village of Ithaca, Lavender Hideaway is perfectly quiet and secluded. The surrounding gardens seem to stretch as far as the eye can see, and the only thing that breaks the silence are the bells of goats in the distance.
The villa consists of a three-bedroom house and an adjacent guesthouse. Continuous and loving restoration preserves traditional elements, combining them with modern amenities. The main house has the air of a 1920s bourgeois house. It consists of three bedrooms (one double, one twin and one single), a living room, dining room, open plan kitchen, and bathroom. The guesthouse, recently recreated on the ruins of what used to be the neighboring house, has a bedroom, a living room, and a bathroom. Two built-in sofa beds can comfortable sleep another two people, ideally children.
The village is very small, dotted with the ruined houses of those who left in the 1950s in search of a better future. There are no shops, and the only kafeneio (traditional coffee shops that are to be found across Greece) keeps erratic business hours. There are beautiful walks to be enjoyed around the village, and lovely churches to be visited. Children will enjoy the rare freedom that only nature and lack of danger can afford.
Neighbouring villages and beautiful beaches with crystal green blue waters and white pebbles are at a twenty minute drive. The capital, Vathy, is at a half hour drive.
This is a rare and truly magical place. There is no television, and no internet access. Even mobile phone reception can sometimes be erratic. At dusk the sheep pass by on their way home, and at night the only sounds are those of the night crickets and the owls. It is ideal for those in search of beautiful landscapes, and the simplicity and elegance of rural life.
Most of the house and grounds are accessible - the main house is large enough to accommodate most of our guests. For larger parties, there is a guesthouse available, with a separate entrance.

We offer cleaning services twice per week, but can arrange additional visits upon request. We can also arrange for meals to be cooked for you, if you wish. Activities, such as hiking with a guide, yoga, and boat hire can also be organised. Please let us know in advance.
Please note again: there is NO INTERNET...you have to go to the neighbouring village. Even mobile internet does not work well. On the bright side - digital detox retreats are all the rage, we offer ours at a fraction of the price :-)
This is an old house, to be treated gently. Most of the items are antique, or family heirlooms, and we believe that their presence are an intrinsic part of the experience. We hope that you will respect this, and take care accordingly.
Water is extremely precious, we mostly use rain water gathered in the stone wells. Please try to use it with consideration, and take care not to waste it by leaving the tap on unnecessarily.
