It has taken me a while to respond to this part of the profile as I find it much easier to share what I love. I am a third-generation native Arizonan, born in Tucson, and have retired from several professions. I am a avid reader of history, philosophy, comparative mythology, and anthropology. I am a retired member of a Arizona plumbers and pipefitters union; a family trade that allowed me to attend graduate school at the University of Arizona where I studied art history, philosophy, anthropology, and comparative mythology. I later taught Art history and Humanities at the college level. I am from a ranching family and my late husband was a rancher who owned and operated a large cow/calf operation in Northern Arizona. I have been employed in the fields of historic preservation, natural resources, and rural economic development. I still am involved in several aspects of rural agri-business. I have been inducted into the Arizona Quilters Hall of Fame and been featured in the American Quilt Studies Group for contributing to the preservation of the fine art of hand quilting. I consider myself a full-time studio artist and have a large studio on site. I live in a 600 square foot casita I designed myself at the rear of the property.
I love to garden, haunt yard sales for real wood furniture and western memorabilia, I have been studying the poetry of Emily Dickinson for 40 years and consider her America's most brilliant poet. I also read western literature, such as Wallace Stegner, Barry Lopez, Willa Cather, Cormac McCarthy, John McPhee just to name a few. I love history, biographies, and the natural sciences, from Konrad Lorenz to Stephen Jay Gould. I subscribe to The New Yorker, and natural resource publications. Current social theory is also a favorite, Harold Bloom, Louis Menand, and bell hooks. I like very early country & western music, as well as Jazz, from Miles Davis to Billy Strayhorn, Clifford Brown and many more. I prefer Rachmaninoff to Mozart.
My motto besides "Don't Fence Me In," is "I don't care which branch of the tree you swing off of, just as long as you don't break any of the other branches for anyone else."
I would say that my style of hosting is that through good, clear communication through the Airbnb platform is to provide my guests with the optimum convenient experience on their journey, whether it be a quiet overnight stay away from the sounds of the freeway, or a longer stay of exploring the beauty of Northern Arizona in which Winslow is the center of. I particularly enjoy meeting like-minded people who are interested in nature, gardening, exploring the wonders of the Southwest, art, and great literature.
