Warm friendly local onsite managed, happy to help with recommendation and enquirers.
As an eco property located on the foreshore of a beautiful tropical island we value our eco ways, which we believe are essential to sustainable living on our family land we look after for the future family. We clean and control insects with essential oil products. Recycling waste will need to be practiced, the complex is set up for this. As a boutique property and with thoughtfulness to other guests we do not allow parties. We greet all guests with flexibility as we respect the fact that everybody has different needs and requirements during their time in Rarotonga. We moved to Rarotonga in 2002 with three young children in tow, city kids looking for a big adventure. Andrew is a Cook Islander by heritage and I am Melinda, the fairest skinned Cook Islander you are going to meet, since my heart says I’m a Cook Islander, that’s good enough from me.
During the years 2002 to 2006 along with the help of our children, we personally developed on Andrew’s family land our home and three guest apartments. We used a new design style we named Modern Pacific, which we inter-wound with eco principles and practices.
What we love most about our life living in Rarotonga is there is no choice but to find what is real. When we talk about what is real we realize that on a little island like ours things are magnified, one is encouraged to see the effects of what we do and they are quickly evident. Rarotonga like all the islands of the Cooks group is unique and beautiful and we feel passionate about keeping them this way for those children that will come after us.
We are inspired by raw nature here, how things can change in extremes from one day to the next, moods you have to be moved by. In the journey of creating our life’s and our family business in Rarotonga we have lived a couple of old sayings “I’d much rather have two’ and tens than fives” and “variety is the spice of life”.
There are so many special things about living in Rarotonga but some stand out more to us. The changing vibration of the ocean waves breaking on the beach, people on motorbikes at night singing as they go by, Island drums and the feeling of excitement they raise up, the colours that reflects off the mountain as the sun rises from the sea, the many beautiful colourful and delicate flowers in our garden. The friends that stopped for a chat and noticed when we have been away. There are also aspects of island life we did not expect to embrace yet we have, like things that are not so available here which have giving us the opportunity to hone skills we would not consider if these things were more easily available. And lastly but not least our love of our Island family and village life and the real inter-connectedness of life and death with family graveyards so beautifully kept close to our homes, a celebration of both.
With this in mind, family is one of the most valuable things we have in our lives, our greatest dream would be that all our children will settle close to us in Rarotanga and that we get to watch them grow, helping each other to learn and caring for them and they for us.
What we enjoy about having guests join us in our special piece of paradise is we get to share life's experience with other, something we love to do.
