I am glad to hear you liked our little island, its laid-back lifestyle and its people! Visitors to Caye Caulker are of the same opinion and usually return.
I enjoyed hosting you at the Hideaway, Iris and Hastings. You seemed to be enjoying your stay here and I am surprised that you described your stay as a “horrible experience”.
You were scheduled to check out on Tuesday morning, and you left on Sunday at noon. This is 1.5 days early. When you left, Iris explained to me that she was feeling ill and preferred to go home.
The air conditioning unit had been running non-stop for over 24 hours without being shut off at all. Air conditioners that are used for that length of time without being paused for even a short while will clog the condenser and the compressor, causing major damage to the unit. In addition, being ill and exposing yourself to continual A/C compromises your health even more and could cause fever and cold. I was concerned that Iris already had a fever, and that the fresh air may be better for her. The evening I asked you to turn off the A/C to give the motor a break, I provided you with a 3-speed floor fan. In addition, the cabana is equipped with a good quality ceiling fan. That day, the temperature had dropped and it was considerably cooler with a breeze.
Had you expressed your feelings regarding privacy, I would happily have moved you to the far cabana, next to the road. The louvre windows in the cabanas provide excellent privacy, as they can be tilted at several angles, blocking vision both in and out. The windows also allow for better air flow, natural light and security. I am considering installing blinds in addition to the louvre windows.
