We are making our home available for athletes competing in the Oct. 17 2015 Ironman Maryland. Our home is part way through an ongoing update but has everything you need to be comfortable. One large bedroom with queen bed, and one room w/ twin bed.

Prostor

Our home is a 1930s American Foursquare that was built by its longtime original owner. The property was home for a local family for many years. We are currently in the process of a 6-year project to complete an update to the property. The Home is modest in size with the first floor consisting of the kitchen, living room, dining room, as well as mud/laundry space. The second floor consists one large bedroom with queen size bed, one small room with a twin size bed. The home is situated on approximately 1-acre of land.

Dostupno gostima

You will have access to the entire home and will have complete privacy during your stay.

Interakcija s gostima

We are available to help with any questions or issues that pop up during your stay. We will stop in to check on our small backyard flock of chickens once a day.

Ostale napomene

The property is close to several local places to eat, including Suicide Bridge Restaurant (an easy bike ride away!) as well as several local spots in Secretary and East New Market. Cambridge restaurants are a 10 minute drive away. Main grocery stores are located in Cambridge area but several quick-shops are nearby.

Listopad 2015.
Katie was a volunteer at the 2015 Ironman Maryland event that brought us to Cambridge. When the event was postponed due to Hurricane Joaquin and everyone was scrambling to re-book accommodations she arranged to move her family out of their home for the weekend to make it available to the athletes and their fans. We saw a posting on one of the race related (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) pages and jumped on it for our party of 3 - a couple and a single - staying 4 nights. Nothing fancy, just a 1930's country home that a young family is in the midst of modernizing. It sits on a corner lot of over an acre at the intersection of quiet country roads outside the hamlet of Secretary, 15 minutes from downtown. It is very homey with original well-worn hardwoods everywhere and big open rooms. There is no major construction in progress just cosmetic things like moldings and paint. Everything we needed was there ... some newer appliances, some older. The two cats she left behind to keep an eye on us and the chickens in the coop added to the homey feel (we fed the cats daily, she came out to feed the chickens). The WiFi was great, although cell service out there is a bit spotty. The master is huge as they've turned 2 of the 3 bedrooms into one. The other bedroom the smaller with a double bed. The King master bed was very comfortable. Note that the master bedroom doesn't have closets. There is one full bathroom next to the bedrooms upstairs. Downstairs has a big full kitchen with large pantry, separate dining room, big family room with flat screen TV, cable and comfortable leather chair and big L sofa. Back entrance has mud room with washer/dryer where we stored out bikes. Front entrance has a nice covered wrap-around veranda with chairs. Parking is on a gravel driveway behind the house with room to park several vehicles. We met Katie a couple of times at the event and she couldn't have been more gracious. She had stocked the fridge with essentials for us and offered to make the home available for another night after the race if we needed to recover. For our part we were delighted to be staying in a relaxing home environment and getting good nights' sleep rather than the craziness of the host hotel during the stressful lead up to the start of the race. The icing on the cake was that we helped Katie and her husband fund their remodeling project while we saved $1800 compared to the host hotel's $580 nightly rate with all their add-on fees. And we had a whole house not a hotel room! For those doing Ironman Maryland 2016, I'd highly recommend Katie's home if she makes it available again.
