This place is good for people who really want to have a soothing vacation (good for a couple), but not for people who are traveling on a low budget. The reasons are following: You need a car to move everywhere. In the U.S. version, it is like living in a suburb. There is a local bus, but the bus does not run on set schedule.
-Ken’s house was beyond expected. The house is divided into four parts and you will be staying one part of the house. You are not renting a whole house... that is what I thought at first. However, you will have a private kitchen, your own Queen size bed and a private bathroom. I love the fact that the towels were provided. There is no AC but have fans in each room. One room has a ceiling attached fan and the other room has a half-broken fan. His house is on the hill so if you don’t have a car, you have to walk up the hill. Moreover, it is close to the Darkwood beach that you can basically go everyday and get some tanning! It is a quite beach and there are not a lot of tourists. The people you see on that beach are mainly from a cruise trip or for long-term vacation from U.K., Italy, and the U.S.. Overall, the house was clean, but some of the features weren’t there as described on Airbnb. It was more like a rental house rather than rent a single room. You can also do laundry, has a parking spot, and cook. In addition, Kenneth live on the first floor, so you can find him easily.
-I love the area. It is surrounded by the mountains on one side and the beach on the other side. There is any tall building, so you get to see numerous stars at night. The beach is 10mins away by foot from the house and you will get to see beautiful moon reflected on the beach at night. The down side is that if you don’t have a car, again, you cannot go further. If you do have a car, Jolly Harbour is the closest.
People and the host
-People are very nice in this island. The price is cheapish and people don’t scam you in this island. But, you will have a hard time understanding their version of English. Kenneth was very helpful in every way. First day, we didn’t have a car, so he dropped us off at the grocery. Also, he showed us some local food vendor and at the last day, dropped my friend and I at the airport. He was more than a host. I would suggest you to ask Kenneth, first, if you do have any question related to Antigua.
It was a pleasant expereince with him and would love to rent his place again when I go back to Antigua.
