Listed period house on one of York’s prettiest streets directly overlooking the majestic city walls. Suitable for families or two couples looking for a peaceful break. Wood burner, garden, wifi. Sorry no groups or parties!
A peaceful and quiet cottage that is perfect for a family break or two couples in the heart of the city. The house has a wood burner and garden that looks directly onto the city walls.
Please kindly note that this is a house set up for families or two couples, not groups wishing to stay up late at night. We have had problems with this and need to stress that this property is in a very quiet and residential area and respect our neighbours peace.
Sleeping arrangements: There are two double bedrooms and a small loft space that has restricted head space and is only suitable for children/teenagers (a great place for them to “hide away” from the grown ups. The house sleeps 4 adults and 2 children or a larger family.
Parking: We cannot offer parking to guests (York Council rules) but there is nearby parking in Nunnery Lane, we will provide more info on this if required.
Just a 5 minutes walk from York centre, Bishy Road and all its independent shops and cafes, Rowntree Park and the riverside path.
Our house is full of character. Dewsbury Terrace is an oasis tucked away amidst the bustle of the city centre with a sought-after view. We hope you love it as much as we do.
The house was built in 1851 and commands a memorable and unique view onto the city walls.
Bright and beautiful, this was our family home before we moved to Barcelona. We have recently refurbished it and everything is of high quality.
We include what we know is important to our guests - comfy beds, beautiful bed linen, essentials (shampoo, tea, coffee, muesli, jam), fast wifi, real wood burner, smart TV and wifi speakers.
Designed with families in mind, the house is also great for two couples but we have to stress the peaceful location, this isn't suitable for those wishing to party.
Sleeping arrangements: The main bedroom has a king size wrought iron bed, the rear bedroom has a comfy double and the top loft has an IKEA pullout bed that glides out into a large double. There is a high chair and travel cot/baby bedding if required.
**Please note: The loft room is restricted in head height - perfect for kids (great place for them to "hide away" from the grown ups) but not suitable for adults.
The living/dining room is light and open plan. A large and very snuggly corner sofa seats 6 and looks out onto the walls. A wood burning stove is there for you to use. There is an antique pine dining table to seat 6. We provide a small, curated selection of toys, DVDs, games and books for your stay.
Bathroom: The bathroom is new and has a deep, P shaped bath with overhead shower and a large velux window so its light.
Kitchen: A galley kitchen, our kitchen has everything you should need for your stay. We supply muesli, jams, tea, coffee, sugar, oil, salt & pepper. There is a fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine available to use.
The front garden is a beautiful place to sit and watch the sunset over the city walls on a warm evening. There is a small back garden laid with artificial grass and plants.
There is a house information pack packed with useful info on bike hire, local restaurants, taxis and suggested trips. York is a brilliant cycling city and you can hire bikes nearby at York Station.
The whole house including front garden and back courtyard is yours to explore and relax in.
A full house manual has all the info you need, including how to use the stove.

Myself and my family are currently living near Barcelona. Cathy acts as host for us and manages the changeovers and arrivals where requested, we will provide her contact details on booking in case you need a local contact. There is a key safe for efficient self-check in, which most guests prefer.
Because we aren't physically located in York at the moment, we have a keysafe for speedy, 24/7 check-in. We also have Cathy who is based in York who can be here to meet you if you like, and of course to ring if you have any problems or would like any local info.
Like you love our house as much as we do. It's yours to enjoy but please look after it! There are three rules:
1. Strictly NO noise after 11pm or before 8am - please respect the tranquility of the street (and our very lovely neighbours). Please be respectful if you have an early departure. The no noise includes banging the front door and running up and down the stairs late or early.
2. Please leave it as you found it (wash up dirty pots, put the recycling outside the front and clean stove if used) - no need to strip the beds or hoover.
3. Leave the key in the key safe at the end of your stay

I am currently living in the mountains near Barcelona with my husband Tony and our two young daughters - giving us all great memories and experiences.
We own two properties listed on Airbnb in York UK - where I was brought up - and lived there for the last six years with the children. Before that I lived in London and Manchester.
We absolutely love Airbnb hosting and have gotten a lot out of it, we also love to travel as a family and enjoy staying in different properties.
I love 80s movies, riding my bike on a sunny day, camping and getting out and about in mother nature.
