Welcome to my sunny penthouse in the charming South End of Boston. Your room is part of my apartment on the top floor of a traditional 1850s brownstone (in other words, no elevator, unfortunately) and has a double bed, a flat screen TV with Chromecast, air conditioning and access to a very walkable neighborhood with some of the most highly rated restaurants in Boston. The view of the Boston skyline from your windows is one of the best in the area. x
In order to provide a calm atmosphere for guests, as well as a comfortable and safe environment, the following are the rules of my house. Please be aware of and follow all of them throughout your stay at my home. Most of what follows is common sense or common courtesy. The rules serve to protect you as a guest by helping ensure that the environment you find here is the one that I intended to create.
Please keep in mind:
You will be sharing common areas with me, and the cleanliness of the common areas is more dependent upon all guests cleaning up after themselves than it is upon my cleaning. Most guests do very well in keeping common areas clean!
Kindly remove shoes upon entering my apartment. I ask this because my hardwood floors are very old, and shoes increase the noise to my elderly downstairs neighbor (who is wonderful, so I do what I can to make life easy for her).
Please try not to drag luggage up the stairs, as it disturbs the other building occupants.
Please leave things as they are in your room: do not remove pictures from walls, don't move furniture around, the mattress protector from the mattress. Also, it should not be necessary to say, but since some guests have done this, I must add: please do not take any of my personal possessions out of my home without asking. If you would like to take one of my books about Boston, please ask first.
No smoking or "vaping" of any substance inside or outside of the building. Please do not smoke on the sidewalk in front of the house as this results in dropped butts littering the street - my neighbors are very sensitive about this issue, and I like to keep them happy.
No pets/animals may be brought to my home. Any guest who intends to bring an animal, MUST disclose this prior to booking. In the case of a guest who fails to disclose that they intend to bring an animal prior to making a reservation, and arrives with an animal, their reservation will not be honored and they will be turned away.
Due to danger of fire, no candles, or open flames may be used in the house.
Please observe hours for laundry facilities, 9:00AM to 9:00PM - unfortunately the interior structure of our building lets everyone know when a machine is running, so we try to be respectful.
When you are done using the kitchen, please do not leave dishes or food in the sink, on counters, on the stove, or in any common area. Please put your used dishes in the dishwasher – it’s a two drawer dishwasher so it's fine to start a new drawer if one is full. Kitchen hours are 6:00AM to 10:00PM, although I am willing to make exceptions for early arrivals or departures you discuss it with me before arrival.
Please do not consume food or beverage in the bed as this can cause damage to linens. Dishes may not be stored in the guest bedroom.
After use of the bathtub/shower and sink, please clean out hair from the drain/floor area and sink area and make sure tub/shower is basically clean. Do not remove the drain screens from tub/sink as those help prevent clogs.
Common areas are cleaned once every two weeks, and guest rooms are cleaned in between guest visits. My cleaning lady comes every other Tuesday, and I will let you know if this coincides with you visit, so you can let me know if you’d like her to clean your room at that time. Apart from this, guests are expected to keep common areas clean after use.
My expectation is that only the people that Airbnb has on the listing will be occupying the room, overnight or during the day. Please let me know if you would like to have friends or relatives visiting.
Please always lock deadbolts of exterior doors when passing in/out through the doors.
Unfortunately, there is no bicycle storage in the building at this time, and from personal experience I would not recommend leaving even a locked bicycle on the street for any length of time.
Guest agrees to pay Host for damages or loss for any of Host's property damaged/lost by the Guest.
Despite this list of things that makes me seem like I expect the worst of you, I look forward to meeting you!

I am a 30 year resident of the South End, and I love to meet people and share my neighborhood with them. I love to travel, and my goal is to have visited the same number of countries as my age. I am currently 8 short, so I need to get moving. I love to read, cook and travel, and I'm hoping my guests like to do the same.
