Fishtrap is a waterfront apartment built in one of the most beautiful places on earth - a magical place. From our private sandy beach on Dana passage you can watch the sun rise and set, seals play offshore and bald eagles 'stand' in the trees above.
Completed in 2015, the apartment is built above our garage with a private access stair and generous exterior decks at each end - one faces the forest to the south and the other faces the beach to the north. The apartment is tucked just behind our home, on the other side of a small Japanese garden.
There is a king size bed in the sleeping loft that looks down to the living room below and out to the beach beyond through a large round window. There is also a ‘pull-out’ sofa in the living area that makes up into a queen size bed.
The apartment has an open floor plan with a cathedral ceiling above the living and dining areas. It includes a bathroom with a skylight and tile shower. The utility closet includes a full-sized washer and dryer and the kitchen is equipped with everything you could possibly need to prepare and share a meal.
Guests have full access to our beach - a sandy point on Dana Passage. We live on a bluff though so please note - although the stairs to the beach are new, there are 101 of them. Our climb is not for the faint of heart.
From our beach you can watch the sun rise above Dickerson Point and set over Harstine Island. Bald eagles perch in the trees above and (if you’re lucky), you will see pods of Orca whales swim by in the summer

We have lived in Olympia for the past 35 years. We know this area very well and provide our guests with a list of our favorite restaurants, shops and activities in our 'guest book'. We offer as much (or as little) interaction with our guests as they want.
Fishtrap Loop is a favorite destination for local bicyclists and the Chehalis Western bicycle path (a ten minute ride from Fishtrap) passes through forests and farms heading nearly 22 miles south through the Deschutes River valley.
Fishtrap is a quiet, 'no smoking allowed' listing. Given that the neighborhood supports families of foxes, raccoons, and squirrels, no pets are allowed. We trust that you will treat the apartment with respect, leave it the way you found it and enjoy your stay enormously.
My wife Anna and I recently retired from running an architectural design firm in Olympia, Washington. We have lived on the Fishtrap property (and loved it) for the past 25 years. Anna is an Australian and I am an American and we spend a significant part of each year in each country and traveling here and there all over the world.
My passions include music, architecture, a good wine and great food. Anna and I enjoy a rainy afternoon by the fire and a sunny afternoon exploring a new beach.
