An Apartment That is Yet Another Reason to Visit Paris
The apartment exemplifies – in only the best way – how an accommodation, whether a hotel room or vacation rental, can influence and be an integral part of a stay away from home.
The host: Before arriving in Paris, we had a sense that Marcos would be a good host because he responded promptly to our e-mails. When our taxi pulled up to the building, Marcos was there to greet us. He immediately made us feel welcome and comfortable, and answered our many, many questions, including where to find a late-night bite. He was also available via text to answer even more questions.
The location: The apartment’s location on Ile Saint-Louis, in the fourth arrondissement between Ile de la Cite (Notre Dame) and La Marais is fantastic. Two metro stations and three Vélib stations are within five-minute walks of the apartment. (The 8 euros weekly Vélib access fee (per person) is the best 16b euros we spent.) A patisserie/boulangerie is directly across from the building, and a pharmacy is next door. In a city of great bistros and restaurants, many in walking distance of the apartment, you’ll find several restaurants and ice cream shops right on Ile Saint-Louis.
The apartment: The apartment exceeded our expectations set by the description and photos. We walked into an apparently very recently-cleaned apartment (that’s always a relief). The living area is spacious, bright, and tastefully furnished with plenty of comfortable seating. The kitchen is nicely equipped. The combination washer/dryer is a great convenience (especially because our nine-night stay in Paris was the last stop of a two-week trip in Europe). The bathroom is clean and bright, and the large walk-in shower with the overhead rain shower is awesome. (An overhead shower is not novel, but one that is appropriately sized for the shower room/stall is.) The half bathroom (toilet and sink) is a bonus. The bedroom has a luxury hotel feel, including exceptionally comfortable mattress and pillows. And the bedding was pressed (nice touch). The details of the bedroom were not lost on us: not only does the custom bedspread match the window treatments through the apartment, so does the lining.
The view: While the apartment is the star, the view is the scene stealer. Though we had read previous guests’ comments about the view, we were not anticipating the knock-out view the apartment offers. We immediately fell into a nightly routine of opening one of the large windows, pulling up a couple chairs to the window, and enjoying watching life in Paris with a glass of wine. There was just something so calming about looking at the Seine with the beautifully lit Pont Marie directly below us while watching the Seine tour boats. (It inspired us to take a nighttime Seine cruise – a bit touristy, but worthwhile.)
This apartment was a key element in our great Paris experience. We strongly recommend it to others to enjoy.
