I booked this place based on the location and the very positive reviews on this site. Needless to say, my expectations were already set quite high. Despite the skepticism of our driver, we arrived at the upper entrance around noon, and as soon as Francis opened the gate we knew we had made the right choice. The views were breathtaking. After navigating the long entry stairway, we arrived at the main floor level that includes a huge living room/bar area, a very large dining room and a massive deck with a long lap pool.
The public areas were just spectacular and the view is just amazing. Even Francis, who's live there for years, can be found just staring off into the horizon long periods of time.
We booked a smaller upper floor room. The room itself is kind of basic, bed and a decent bathroom but had a walkout to a huge deck. We spent very little time in the room since the public areas were always quiet and comfortable. You could choose to lounge on one of the two outdoor beds, lay back in the one of the lounge chairs or sit around the outdoor sofa.
Francis and Christina were great hosts and always available to help with advice or arrangements. Francis was more comfortable speaking French or Portuguese and Christina Portuguese. I especially appreciated Francis's afternoon caipirinhas, which were excellent.
As others mentioned, it's a short walk to one end of Ferradura beach but I think the middle section is a bit nicer with more food options. The house is also about a one mile walk to town. Buzios is relatively safe and we felt OK walking to town each night and took a taxi back later each night for 20 reais.
The house is on a hill so there are lots of stairs to climb ~40 to the top level and ~30 to go down to the beach so not the place for people with any mobility issues.
Overall, this was an absolutely fantastic experience and an amazing value. I'm already thinking about heading back.
