Nestled in the hills of the North End , remote Arnish Cottage has views through ancient woodland across the sea to the ISLE OF SKYE. Arnish sits at the end of CALUMS ROAD and is a traditional Hebridean cottage, sympathetically modernised.

Arnish is a charming four bedroom off grid Cottage. Three rooms are double and one twin. Two of the doubles and the twin lie under the eaves upstairs with the last bedroom downstairs. Also downstairs is a modern bathroom with bath and shower. The cosy lounge has a woodburner, TV, books and games. In the kitchen you will find a large table, great for family gatherings and a Range for cooking. A warming LPG stove sits within a sweet little fireplace. Entering the cottage you will find a fair sized boot room. There is a pretty cottage garden of a good size surrounding the property, this is totally at your disposal. The area is fenced off and dog friendly. Having been owned previously by a deep sea diver, the cottage and garden contain some fascinating nautical memorabillia.

Guest access from Calums Road comprises of a shared driveway, leading to your own parking space, enough for two cars, with additional space if required. There is well fenced off croft land around the property which guests are welcome to explore with their dogs . Please be aware that we use this area and have two dogs. There a three wild cats that sometimes sleep in the shed abutting the garden, they seldom come into the garden and keep well away from inquisitive dogs.

We can meet you from the ferry and take you on tours if you are without transport. As we are situated nearby to the property we are available for interaction with guests. If you wish for total peace and privacy this is respected by us. We can show you spectacular walks and give advice on places of interest. Picnic lunches can be provided.

Arnish cottage is hunkered down against a backdrop of ancient Birch covered hills and grinning rocky outcrops, just a few minutes walk to the sea. The area is a Geologists dream. Challenging but beautiful landscape makes it the perfect playground for cyclists, walkers and the adventurous of heart. The remoteness provides an atmosphere  perfect for a  retreat.
If you feel a shadow pass over you on a walk by the sea, look up, it may well be a sea eagle. The given name of the area Arnish, means Eagle Headland.
Raasay itself is an island bedded down in the waters between the spooning landscapes of Skye and the West Coast Peninsulas. Its diverse landscape encourages an abundance of fllora and fauna. Marine life such as dolphins, seals and even whales show themselves in these waters. Deer dot the landscape, resplendently silhouetted atop the hills at dusk. At each seasons change Raasay opens her box of treasures and showers the Isle with seasonal gifts. During the warmer months the woods and grasslands are busy with wildflowers, Primroses carpet the woods, to be replaced nearer Autumn with pockets of Chanterelle mushrooms. Orchids and foxgloves seem to love it here.
The North End of the Island is the starting point for many amazing walks, and Arnish the last resort for accommodation. Thereafter lies 6 miles of amazing landscape to be explored, including a group of small islands, some of which you can cross to at low tide. The village has a lively community shop, where you can pre order provisions for your stay. The wonderfully gracious Raasay House is a 18th century mansion and provides variety of facilites and events alongside a cafe and bar. Raasay itself is only 20 minutes by ferry from the Isle of Skye so there is much to explore.

Arnish is the end of the road so you cant miss us! There are regular ferries to and from Skye and a bus service from the ferry terminal at Sconser to Portree and Kyle Of Lochaish. Timetables for the ferry can be obtained from Caledonian McBrayne, (URL HIDDEN) Copies are also in the cottage for your information.

Heating is supplied by a wood burning stove in the lounge and LPG stove in the kitchen. A radiator in the bathroom picks up any excess power from the wind turbine and solar panels. You will be supplied with a basket of logs on your arrival and additional logs can be obtained at £5 a basket. Please be aware that wood burners are not suitable for the very young to be left unsupervised around. There is constant hot water supplied by an Instant Water Heater. As is typical in many parts of Scotland, the water comes from a local source. We have a Berkey water filter for drinking water. Bath and shower water may appear discoloured on occasion.
Please dress sensibly for this part of the country. We are 10 miles from the village, this is where the shop and post office are. Although you will be provided with a small welcome pack of essentials on arrival , please make sure you have other provisions you might need for the beginning of your stay. You can pre order your requirements from the village shop, alternatively let us know and we can pick up your supplies. There is no chemist on Raasay. There closest are in Broadford and Portree where there is a Boots.

Ostale napomene

NB . When purchasing food please be aware that although the oven hob is a gas the main oven is electric. You might want to consider your food choices as being off grid means that power can occasionally be insufficient to run the oven without putting the generator on. We are happy to do this but wish that you are aware that living off grid grid requires some flexibility regarding power. Don't worry your favourite seasonal meals for Thankgiving, Christmas and New Year safe . There is plenty of power during the winter months.

Arnish cottage is off grid, so we would expect guests to respect there are certain restrictions regarding elecrical appliances. A wind turbine and solar panels provide enough power for basic amenities. Watching TV and use of the washing machine, charging up laptops, ipads and phones are all fine (although we don't advise having everything on at one time). Sensible lighting of the cottage please, turn lights and electrical appliances off when not in use. Hairdryers and games consoles are unsuitable as they will cause huge strain on your power source. No shoes upstairs please, no dirty shoes in the cottage.
Please be advised that we share the landscape with other creatures such as, free range pigs, wild deer, and sheep. If you are at all unsure of your dogs behaviour concerning these animals please keep them on a lead when leaving the property . There is plenty of land other than the garden for them to cavort off lead whilst insuring their own safety and that of the local animals. We hope that you will enjoy staying in our dear cottage and that you will treat it like your own. Nicky, Mary and Maya look forward to welcoming you.

Nicky, Maya and Mary are the perfect hosts. They are extremely welcoming and make you feel very at home. They are very happy to give great tips for amazing walks with stunning scenery. The cottage is beautiful and is super cosy with the fire on in the living room. We were interested in the off the grid aspect of living in the cottage for a few days and have found the challenge enjoyable. It was very clean when we arrived and the log fire was already lit! The island itself is incredible and we saw a whole host of wildlife including deer, golden eagles, dolphins and seals. I can't recommend staying at Arnish cottage enough.

If you want some peace, quiet and simplicity off the beaten track Arnish Cottage is the place. The adventure starts with the bendy, hilly drive up from the ferry port with beautiful coastal scenery on all sides. It's possible you'll do the journey without seeing another living soul but keep an eye out for sheep, walkers and the occasional motorist coming the other way! As you get to the cottage with it's colourful bouys tied to the gate you may be greeted by a couple of friendly pigs, if you're lucky. But you will definitely be greeted by a couple of friendly ladies waiting to guide you up the drive and show you round the house. Arnish House is an old cosy cottage with beams and a log burner and bedrooms in the eaves. The perfect kind of place to relax after walking in the beautiful countryside of Raasay. It's off grid so you do have to be mindful of your electricity and water consumption but it's easily manageable. The wifi is hit and miss but Nicky and Mary are taking steps to solve the problem right now. We had a wonderful relaxing week at Arnish which we'll never forget and will be recommending to any friends who are looking for a quiet 'chill-out' somewhere a bit different.

Nicky, Maya and Mary were the most wonderful welcoming hosts. Even with the rain we all had such a great week exploring the island - seeing sea eagles, dolphins, wild pigs and otters. The cottage has such an amazing feel to it and everyone enjoyed reading books from the incredible penguin classics book collection. Being one of the last houses at the end of the island road means you feel really hidden away and can truly relax and unwind. There was 8 of us staying in the house and every one of us agreed that the house and surrounding area was just perfect and didn't want to leave at the end of the week.

This is a magic place. Incredibly beautiful, wonderfully cozy, and delightfully decorated. The warmest welcome we could imagine, coupled with the pristine location made for a very special adventure. It was a perfect place to bring our two small children who took to life on the island and loved exploring the house and garden. We were looking for somewhere totally remote and beautiful and this house was perfect. We will certainly be back! I should also mention that Nicky and everyone at Arnish are the most interesting, kind, and warm hearted hosts you could ask for. Plus they were always 100% ready and happy to help. If you are booking a trip here you are lucky!

"If we could make contours in hearts as we do in maps, to see their loves, we should learn what strange unexpected regions attain the deepest depth. Often we might discover that a place rather than a person holds the secret." As absolutely stunning as Raasay is, Dame Freya Stark wrote this without having met the wonderful Maya and Mary (sadly Nicky was away but we're sure she's just as warm and welcoming as the rest of her family). We meant to use Arnish cottage as a jumping off point for Skye but we didn't leave once. Maya helped us discover the beauty of this little island which was more special than anything I've seen on Skye. The cottage itself was clean, warm, perfectly equipped, and as others have said, Mary's salad was like nothing we've ever had the pleasure of feasting on! The dogs are sweet, the hot water is bountiful and being off grid was really more of a state of mind than anything tangible as it caused us no inconvenience at all. In fact it was a pleasure to be mindful of our relationship to the many conveniences we take for granted at home (and there were 9 of us!). The only reason I hesitate to go on and about how wonderful our time at Arnish was is purely selfish. As Skye becomes overrun with people coming and going, Raasay remains an off-the-beaten-track gem. You would be hard-pressed to find anywhere more beautiful with more wonderful hosts. We met the road in with apprehension coming from the big highways in Canada but the sheep do get out of the way :-) and there really was nobody else on the roads. What a special time we all had and we hope to be back. Thank you so much Nicky for being *so* accommodating leading up to our visit and to Maya and Mary for your hospitality.

Ardnish Cottage is a stunning home in an amazing location, with fabulous hosts and interesting history. The cottage is very comfortable with everything you can need, for sitting about reading, cooking or playing games. Just walking from the cottage in any direction is wonderful, full of places for adventure and communing with seals or deer. My wife had broken her leg and was on crutches, so our walking abilities were limited, yet with help from Maya and Mary, we got to some great places and all had a wonderful week. For being off grid, this is total luxury. Enjoy!

A stunning cottage in a lovely secluded location. Nice to have a fire inside with a basket of logs to work our way through after some of the most amazing walks we have ever had.
