Enjoy a boho getaway! Nestled in the foothills of the Cuyamaca mountains of San Diego,"Camp Jackson" is a fun and unique lodging choice. Enjoy the birds and butterflies as you sip coffee peacefully on the deck, and stargaze around a campfire at night. We are close to the Cleveland National Forest with hiking trails and recreation and also just minutes away from downtown's Gaslamp Quarter, the beaches, zoo and all the exciting destinations San Diego has to offer.
Our rustic tent cabin offers "glamping" at it's finest. Set in our private backyard setting in Harbison Canyon in rural East San Diego County, our canvas walled tent is the same type of shelter used by the pioneers, trappers, miners and hunters of early America. We also have a fire ring and picnic table so you'll feel like you are camping in the wilderness, but with the conveniences of home.
Away from the city lights, the night sky is spectacular. You'll also enjoy all the sounds of country living with the bird calls, coyote howls and more.
Our tent cabin is furnished with antiques that give it a homey feel. Furniture includes a double bed in antique iron frame, two chairs, a domed steamer trunk and a parlor stove that can be used for heat on cold nights. Please note that the canvas material of the tent protects you from the elements, but does not provide insulation from heat or cold. We also have a small electric heater and an electric fan to keep the temperature comfortable.
We are conveniently located just 30 minutes from downtown San Diego and popular tourist attractions like Comic-Con, Balboa Park, the beautiful beaches and the world famous San Diego Zoo. 35 minutes east you will find beautiful Mount Laguna, Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Pacific Crest Trail access and the historic gold mining town of Julian. About an hour east brings you to the Anza Borrego desert with its unique flora and fauna.
Within a very few miles are several sovereign nations of Kumeyaay Indians including the Viejas, Sycuan and Barona tribal bands. The Sycuan Resort - about 5 minutes away - features up close live concert events and golfing. The Viejas Casino includes an expansive outlet shopping center and the Barona Resort has an amazing buffet and other activities.
There is much to be enjoyed in San Diego's peaceful East County.
You are welcome to enjoy the covered deck, sipping coffee or tea and breakfast treats that Amanda provides, or relaxing and enjoying a California sunset. A small refrigerator on the deck is also available for your use. There is a coffee maker in the kitchen, where we supply coffee and condiments.
Just inside the sliding door off the deck you will find the downstairs bathroom of the house easily accessible with private toilet, sink and shower.

We enjoy talking to our guests as much or little as they prefer. We like finding out about where they live and also providing information on the local area. We do work during the week, but are usually around on the weekends.
You will hear more "country" sounds. We have two chickens and our neighbors have dogs and wildlife abounds. Being an canvas tent, you will probably hear the sounds of nature.
Because we are in a rural area and coyotes roam the hills and valleys, we don't want guests to bring small animals because the tent cabin has spaces where they could get out and could get into some trouble with local wildlife. We would consider hosting guests with a larger dog, but it would need to be attended at all times because we have chickens on the property.
We are a married couple and have lived in the San Diego area our entire lives. We have lived in our home since 1990 and recently built our backyard campground which we call "Camp Jackson." We enjoy bird watching and gardening and have landscaped our yard to be butterfly and hummingbird friendly. Our yard is a Monarch Butterfly Rest Stop.
We enjoy healthy living and outdoor cooking, especially cast iron dutch oven cooking, cowboy style. We are traditional crafters. Amanda makes homemade soap, quilts, crochets and cans fruits and vegetables from the garden. Vince is a leather worker and plays guitar.
