Our house is a 1/2 block from the Mississippi River to the east and has the rail road tracks a 1/2 block to the west. The thing with Bellevue, it is a horn free zone for the trains. There is a strict speed limit for trains coming thru town which eliminates the need for crossing arms and horns at intersections. The only time you'd hear a horn from the trains is if someone does something really stupid like try to cross the tracks when they shouldn't.
Our house is located in a quiet neighborhood. Please be courteous of the neighbors. Keep the noise down between the hours of 9 pm and 8 am. You might be on vacation, but the neighbors are not!
No smoking allowed in the house. Smoking on the deck is allowed. Please dispose of cigarette butt in a responsible manner.
Small pets are allowed. There is an additional$20 cleaning fee for pets. Pets need to be kenneled when left alone in the house. No pets on furniture or on carpets. No mean dogs, no barking, no dogs left unattended outside. All pet droppings to be picked up and disposed of properly before check out.
When parking in the driveway, please pull the vehicle up close to the garage door so not to block the sidewalk.
I have called Bellevue as my home for the past 15 years. I grew up in DeWitt, Iowa and left Iowa after high school graduation and moved to Waco, Texas. I lived in Texas for 15 years, moving back to Iowa in 1999. Terry and I met and were married in 2001. Terry is a Bellevue "lifer". We both work in county government. I work for Dubuque county and Terry for Jackson county.
We bought the house that we use for a guest house in the fall of 2014. I felt this house was the perfect place to host people that were coming to visit our town. The view of the river really drew me to this property. Plus, walking distance to down town and being pretty much centrally located in town. We enjoy being ambassadors to the town we love! So far, we have hosted people from 11 states and one family from Australia. It has been wonderful to meet people from so many walks of life.
We try to be in tune to the needs of our guests, yet not be intrusive. We have key less entry to the guest house. We will give you a 4 or 5 digit code to use while you are a guest at the house.
I love to travel, but Terry is more of a homebody. I have been able to get him to take a bus trip to New York and travel the Wisconsin and Iowa Great River Roads. The last two years we have both been part of a week long kayak/canoe trip on the Mississippi River. I paddle and Terry drives one of the cargo trucks and does road crew for our group. I have taken two service trips to Haiti. I took trips in 2012 and 2013. I hope to go back again soon.
Some of my favorite pastimes include: kayaking/canoeing camping, gardening, meeting new people and quilting. Terry too enjoys people ( he's even more of a social butterfly than I) and being outdoors. He loves to cut wood, wash cars and tend to his lawn(s).
