Too bad you report you're problem with the TV afterwards and not during your stay when I could have explained. There are instructions in the house manual (page 2 in this case) we send all our guests upon arrival.
About the communication:
Since many guests arrive before official check-in time, I try to cater them by letting them in earlier if possible. I also asked Claudette when they expected to arrive and leave, so I would know when to hand over the keys and wether it's possible for arriving guests to come earlier. I had to send 3 e-mails in 12 days before she responded, and she only started responding after I switched from English to French. Later I sent 2 mails, to confirm the times, and to confirm the contactdetails of our neighbours in case something went wrong. This totals to 5 (short) e-mails, which in my book is not much (but who am I to judge?).
As Claudette told me she was going to leave at 9.30am because she had to catch her train, I told other guests they could enter at 10.15. But when our friend who hands over the keys arrived with new guests at 10.15, they were still there, pointing at the house manual where it says check-out at 11.00. Yes, this is what the manual says, but we made another agreement. When we rang (from holiday on Greece), she denied that agreement until I read her own words to her. She then stated she 'forgot', and left quitte soon. I can understand it's uncomfortable to have to leave in a rush, but I would have never asked her to if she wouldn't have agreed to it.
