Welcome to our Mountain Retreat, 237 Briarcliff Rd, Sugar Mountain- Banner Elk, NC 28604
Here are a couple of hints on how to make your stay a very comfortable one:
.The apartment is located 0.2 miles from the ski lodge, a 4 minute walk. We have the advantage that we are very close to the slopes, but do not hear the hissing of the snow machines, being located a bit around the mountain following Briarcliff Rd.
.When you want to go to the lift station at the Lodge just walk on Briarcliff Rd. in the same direction which you came up the road to the parking area at out apartment.
.The access to the apartment is after 16:00 on the arrival day.
.Please use the main road Sugar Mountain Dr. turning left into Briarcliff Rd. 200 yards up that road into the flat parking lot on the left. All roads in Sugar Mountain are well maintained, snow moving equipment clear the roads and throw gravel. When there is more than 3” of snow accumulation the snow on the parking lot is moved out of the way.
.When you have opened the outside door into the building and you come into the foyer please take off your shoes and put them on the shelves to your left. Please do not wear shoes inside the apartment. In the apartment you will find some slippers in the closet to use inside the apartment.
.Please leave skis and snow boards in the lobby. Only you, the owners and the property Manager have access to the building and apartments. When you keep the building door locked your equipment is safe in the lobby.
.When you have opened the inside door you have the bathroom door to your left and a short corridor to your right. To the right of the bathroom door you find a switch for the lamp in the corridor.
.Go into the short corridor to your right and open the door to your left. This is a storage closet, where you will find the slippers on the right wall hanger.
.The door opposite to the storage door leads you into the bedroom.
.Most important at this point is that you look at the wall between the two doors. There is a mirror, which you can fold back to the left. Behind you will find a metal door, which gives you access to the electrical fuses for the apartment. Make sure that all the fuse levers are pushed to the left. The one, which most likely pushed to the right is the second one from the top, the green one, which is controlling the hot water tank. Push it to the left too.
.Go from the entrance corridor further into the apartment towards the granite countertop.
.Around the column right at the beginning of the counter there are a couple of light switches. Switch them on. One of them is a dimmer, press the button in at the bottom of the dimmer switch.
.Go past the granite counter to the wood column. On the kitchen side of the small wall there are more switches to turn on.
.Back to the beginning of the granite, look to the right into the living/dining room. On the wall to your right (old wood) is a switch for the lamp in the corner.
.The bathroom has a switch inside on the right.
.You should now have enough light to find your way around the apartment.
.As you walk from the living/dining room into the kitchen you see the fridge straight ahead. Turn left and you see drawers and the dishwasher under the granite counter.
.The first drawer has two bins, the front for trash, and the back for recycling.
.The next set of drawers are for cutlery and other useful things in the kitchen, like place mats, napkins, etc.
.The dishwasher is simple to load and start. All the available instruction manuals of the appliances can be found in the small cabinet above the fridge and for the washer, dryer and table vacuum above the washing machine.
.You are now facing the sink. There are some cleaning materials in the cabinet under the sink, like the pads of dishwasher detergents, Windex and others.
.More important, there are in that cabinet under the sink, towards the right of the sink against the back wall two valves, which need to have the handles pointing in the direction of the pipes for the open position. These need to be open so that the washing machine in the laundry area at the window get water. Please close the valves after using the wash machine. Unfortunately we have a valve leakage in the wash machine and if left open it will flood the kitchen.
.To the right of the sink you will find the range and above it the microwave/fan combination. Nothing difficult about them. It should be mentioned that the fan is recirculating and filtering air.
.To the right of the fridge, facing it, there is a clothes dryer and a washing machine. The dryer is easy to operate, temperatures in deg F.
.The washing machine is from Germany, i.e. the temperatures indicated are in deg C. 30 deg C correspond to 86 deg F, 60 deg C is 140 deg F and 95 deg C is 203 deg F and that is close to boiling water. We have used the machine with the setting 4 and then pull the start button. The symbols on the control panel surely stem from the world of mysteries, but have something to do with water level (1/2) switch, spin drying or not, pumping water out, length of washing cycle, temperature, etc. Suggestion: Use 4 and you will have clean clothes. Remember to close the valves under the sink when finished.
.There are four thermostats in the apartment, one in the bedroom on the left wall, one in the bathroom to the right, one in the living room to your right when you come in, in the wood wall and one behind the curtain between kitchen and living/dining room.
.There is an open fireplace in the living/dining room. Please only use the fabricated-paper-wrapped logs like Dura-Flame, (see sample on the left of the fireplace in the firewood holder). You can get more at Lowe’s hardware store, which is located off the road to Banner Elk about 2 miles for the apartment.
.Now, enjoy your time in Sugar Mountain and come back soon. We hope you like the chocolate in the bin over the sink and that you enjoy the white wine.
.If you want to watch TV, please make sure that both the plugs are inserted into the receptacle in the ceiling. One is the TV, the other is the Roku. With the remote controls switch on the TV and the Roku and then go to Sky Best Now.
.If you want to use our WIFI-access to the internet please view the Access Code Information file
.When you want to open the vertical blinds it is important to first rotate the slats to the open position using the right metal chain, which you find behind the curtain between the tall blinds in the living/dining room and the shorter ones in the kitchen/laundry. Now you can pull the right string to open the blinds. No high force is necessary to move.
.In the bedroom, please remove the colorful day cover from the bed, fold and put it into the clothes closet on the floor. There are blankets if you like for use on the bed.
.There are some “Mexican-Style” blankets folded in the shelves to the left of the TV. Please use them in the living room sofa and chairs as you wish.
34. A word about leaving:
.1Please leave before 10:00 so that we have time for clean-up for the next renters.
.2Please put all the dishes and cutlery into the dishwasher and switch it on so that the cleaning people only need to put all back into the cabinets.
.3Turn off the two valves under the sink for the washing machine, if not done before.
.4There is no recycling pick-up at the apartment building; if you like you can deposit the recyclables in the bins near the Town Hall of Sugar Mountain. Otherwise we will take care of that. But please bring the trash out to the trash bins in the little house to the left when you leave the building. Please close the trash house door well as we do have Bears and Raccoons who make a mess when they get inside it.
.5Switch off the breaker for the hot water (light blue-green one, 2nd from top behind the mirror next to the bedroom door).
.6Switch off TV, Radio etc.
.7Switch off all the lights.
.8Turn down the thermostats in the bedroom, in the bathroom, in the wood wall and behind the curtain between living/dining room and kitchen to marked position.
.9Close the vertical blinds in the living/dining room and the kitchen, by lightly pulling the right string to turn the blinds parallel to each other and then pull the blinds to close.
.10Also, please close the blinds in the bedroom.
.11Make sure that you close all the windows.
.12Put the slippers back into the storage cabinet.
.13Pull the glass door to the lobby shut and press the oval button on the electronic door lock.
.14Pick up all your shoes and close the outside door.
.15Press the middle button/lock button on the outside door electronic lock and have a safe travel back home.
