This one person, super comfy room is located a 5 minute walk from Grandin Village and the Roanoke River Greenway. It has easy access to the bathroom, kitchen and back patio and off-street parking. The common areas along with the bathroom and kitchen are shared with us. It is located in a zen-like apartment and on a peaceful street. Onsite bikes, electric car charger and five hammocks are available for guest use. We are LGBTQ friendly and super open-minded people.
Truda has lived overseas for 20 years and traveled extensively so the home may appear a bit exotic in décor but interesting! We attempt to create a calm and zen like atmosphere everywhere. We treasure the outdoor space so there are plenty of places to relax on the front porch and back patio. There are hammocks from Nicaragua, a chiminea (outdoor fire) and grill. We have set up the living room for dual use as a TV watching area and exercise area with yoga mats, hand weights, large body ball, and straps. The common areas along with the bathroom and kitchen are shared with us and one other guest when the other single room is occupied.
You will have access to all areas of the house and grounds including the shared laundry room with laundry supplies if needed. Wireless internet is available in indoor and outdoor spaces. There is a work station available for guest use. Guest may borrow bicycles for riding the nearby Roanoke River Greenway.

If we are available, we would love to learn about you and share a little about ourselves if that is something you desire. We can also easily respect your privacy if that is what you need. We will not be offended if the guest prefers to keep to him/herself. We are here to provide what you need during your stay. We do live in the apartment where you will stay.
There is an electric car charger available for guest use if needed as well as two fully-equipped bicycles including helmets we ask you to use. There are a total of three other very respectful and professional adults living in two other apartments in the building so don't be surprised if you run into them in the outdoor spaces or the building's laundry room.
We appreciate your consideration of others in the house and building in such things as cleaning up after yourself in the kitchen, keeping your belongings in the bedroom accept for toiletries and taking your shoes off at the door.We provide linens and towels, coffee and tea makings, oatmeal and cereal, juice boxes and a pitcher of filtered water, coffee maker, filters, cork screw and other kitchenwares. There is no need to make your bed upon departure as we will be changing the sheets anyway.
The extra guest charge applies to everyone in your party. Please call the day of arrival and leave your worries and shoes at the door.

Greetings and welcome to Grandin Village, a southern front porch friendly neighborhood where neighbors say good morning to each other and there are no strangers. We genuinely enjoy hosting airbnb guest and introducing them to our historic village.
Or welcome to Truda's solar off the grid beach side eco-retreat (The Solar Turtle) at Salinas Grandes Turtle Sanctuary depending on which airbnb listing you are pursuing. Both places are set up to be zen like sanctuaries from everyday life.
We are firm believers in what we call "THL" (the hammock life). So much so that we have five hammocks available for guests around our house at Grandin Village and another four beachside at the solar eco-casita in Salinas Grandes.
Most mornings, both locations, you will find us nursing our coffee and tea on the front porch while listening to the birds and watching the squirrels, or iguana as the case me be, scampering around the front yard. In the afternoon, you may find Truda meditating in a hammock and Joseph gardening.
We live in and manage the triplex in Roanoke where the "Peaceful Zen Room" and the "Comfy Room in Friendly Household" are located. The rooms are in a three bedroom ground-level apartment. We also manage two other 100+ year old homes with corporate apartments and rooms geared to traveling professionals as well as the beachfront solar eco-casita in Nicaragua. Also, Truda is working with a yoga instructor she connected with through airbnb to put on a Yoga Eco-Retreat at the eco-casita which also involves releasing baby turtles daily Decemb.
We take pride in providing energy efficient homes in lovely neighborhoods close to or in natural areas that are peaceful, comfortable and inviting for tenants and visitors. We work on building a sense of community by regularly hosting community dinners and fireside gatherings on the large back patio of the home that we live in for tenants, neighbors and their friends.
Truda is a very open-minded and well-cultured human being who has been exposed to a lot of different kinds of people and experiences in her lifetime. Not much phases her. She has lived overseas for 20 years in 11 countries and has visited 40+ countries. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese and practices yoga. She suffers from SAD (seasonal affective disorder) so spends a good part of the winter at the beach front eco-casita and then offers it to airbnb guests the rest of the year under the excellent stewardship of a Canadian couple who live on the beach full-time.
Joseph is very hospitable, kind and truly enjoys helping others.
Both of us have a variety of interests. Together we take Tai Chi class weekly and we enjoy being and doing things in the outdoors. Our new interest is our sweet hypoallergenic non-shedding, well-behaved small snoodle puppy Zen who captures everyone's heart. He sleeps in our room and does not enter guests' rooms. He also is not much of a barker and usually shy around new people.
In Roanoke, we try to be available when visitors arrive but we have a system for self orientation and entrance in case we are not. Visitors are welcome to cook and do laundry during their stay. Our home is tidy and comfortable. We believe in helping visitors feel as if they were in their own home during their visit and doing whatever we can to provide a peaceful oasis in our airbnb homes.
Truda and Joseph's airbnb was one of the first approved special exception homestay's in the city and one of a handful that has gone through required safety inspections and certification process.
