Our family has a tradition of taking a fishing trip with the kids every year, before the start of school. In previous years have fished in northern Sweden, Norway and the Finnish arhipelago. For a change, we picked Aland. Whereas we read that "Aland has a different understanding of right-of-access than the rest of Scandinavia and other countries" - we did not take this as a "warning". What this "warning" means is that 1: you cannot just pick some mushrooms or berries; 2: you cannot just put a fish-hook in the water. All coastal areas and waters require a fishing license. Not one license like other countries, but there are close to 100 different licenses on Aland! And if you do not book an accomodation from the license holder, you are not going to get a license. And you cannot get a boat without having booked an accomodation. Our mistake for not understanding this "warning". Essentially - our plan "catch and fry/smoke some perch" did not happen. So no license. And no boat (unless you wanted to pay 300-600eur for a 3-4hr trip with a guide). And no fish. Otherwise - if one wants to just "get-away" and get some fresh air and relaxation - then Eivor's place is nice. But if you want to also fish - then we recommend a place that can provide a license and has a boat.
We really enjoyed our time at Eivor's place. The cabin, which was built by her grandfather, was lovely and reminded us of my husband's Great Aunt Ruth's house in Sweden. There was plenty of space for the five of us and we enjoyed walking down to the inlet of the Baltic Sea to see the swan family. There was a huge front yard where little children could run around and wear off some energy. Eivor was a wonderful host. We had a concern about the toilet and she checked in on it right away. She also made sure that everything was just as we needed. She also recommended that we visit a nearby garden, which was lovely. The last evening, when returning to the cabin, we were greeted by a mother deer and her two fawns. What a treat! We would stay at Eivor's place again for sure.
