I have been a vetted Airbnb host for more than two year and have always resisted giving my guests bad reviews but I have rarely come across such an unpleasant person.
Although I treat all my guests with utmost respect, Leslie was rude and gruff from the outset. Not only did she not shake hands upon meeting, but having helped her up the stairs with two very heavy suitcases, she did not even have the courtesy of saying "thank you". Most of what she has reported in the review is exaggerated other than that the freezer part of the fridge/freezer was not working. Unbeknownst to anyone the freezer door lining had split which was allowing a constant stream of air into it causing it to keep freezing to the extent that the door was frozen shut. She said it didn't matter because they were not planning to use it. When we managed to open it we found some mould, not surprising as it was broken.
I am surprised she complains about the cooking pans as she inspected them when she first arrived. Had they been as dirty as she claims I'm sure she would have complained. There are no plastic cooking utensils and there is a set of cutlery pieces for #4 people.
To recap the experience, when she arrived she complained about it being too hot. She watched me as I turned the radiator off. A day later she reported the heating not working. I had assumed she had tried to turn the radiator back on without success. I went there with a plumber at 7pm same day to repair any fault that may have occurred. I opened the radiator valve and it heated up right away. Her embarrassed reaction was "not possible". The plumber then turned the thermostat on and within a short space of time the place was warm. Leslie then said "did I mention that I am a lawyer and that I charge $650/hour". I took this as an unwarranted threat and wondered why she was in an Airbnb when she could have easily afforded a 5 Star Hotel.
The day after she left I had a call from my downstairs neighbour telling me that there was a leak and that a corner of her ceiling had come down. I immediately went to see the damage and discovered the leak right below where my fridge / freezer is. It appears that before she left Leslie had, either in an act of malice or mistakenly (I would like to think the latter), turned the fridge/ freezer off which caused the freezer ice to melt causing hundreds of dollars worth of damage to the neighbour below. The neighbour also told me that on the day they left, these unruly tenants had thrown their heavy suitcases down the staircase rather than carry them down causing undue noise and disturbance to others.
I have been letting my daughters flat for over 2 years through Airbnb and have more than 35 good reviews, most of them 5 star. My record is there for all to check.
I would definitely never recommend anyone to accept Leslie as a guests.
