We had some trouble finding the apartment, and unfortunately didn't get great instructions when we called. Luckily we were able to wander around and find the place (it is in a small village which helped). The village of Vafes is welcoming, and all the people were very friendly. This airbnb was unique and cool. It had a great outdoor space with many seats and tables. Our only complaint was the kitchen. It was a little awkward for cooking - no sharp knives, no olive oil, only a small electric burner. Obviously, not an issue at all if you don't plan on cooking meals there. It was very clean and had a nice bathtub.
We stayed for 6 nights at Patitiri and what an absolute pleasure it was. The property has a unique, very pleasing atmosphere and it’s located at a quiet village where you can see all the stars at night. Renting a car is a must. We went all over Crete, returning to the calmness of Vafes past midnight every day. You can have dinner in the lovely Chania on your way back from your daily travel and it’s just half an hour drive from there to ‘your’ place. The cafes closeby are owned by extremely hospitable people and provide a good opportunity for a quick breakfast, and the only sources of wifi. Michalis also was always very attentive and had great communication. Crete was amazing and staying here made it all the more special. I cannot recommend this place enough.
